Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheri Flannery.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
The name “Skin Artistry” came from my love of skin care, makeup, the art of beauty, fashion and lifestyle. Just months after graduating from Moro Beauty College and passing the State Board, I was very eager to start building my business. I started by sharing a suite and growing my clientele. After 5 months, I had a small spa to call my own.
Being an Esthetician wasn’t my first choice of profession. As a little girl, I wanted to be a Flight Attendant, Super Model, and Fashion Designer. Not necessarily in that order. Before Skin Artistry was opened, I was in the retail industry for more than 20 years. I started at 16 years old working for May Co., in the Candy dept. I thought I landed the best job, literally a kid in a candy store.
As the years past, I had worked at various jobs, companies, and industries. From Medical Billing, Insurance Claims, Customer Service, and Sales Associate. Somehow, I was always drawn back to the Fashion and Beauty industry. Working for Bloomingdale’s & Saks Fifth Avenue in the Cosmetics Dept., where I learned more about skincare and makeup. I told myself, “Now this is a great job!” Being with people who share my passion.
2007, I landed a job with Cinema Secrets. I was there for 3 years and met great people with amazing talent and more than a few clients along the way. Cinema Secrets, a beauty supply company and manufacturer with their own makeup line was a perfect place to learn more about business concepts, operations, and manufacturing. I also picked up makeup artistry from some of Hollywood’s leading Industry Makeup Artists.
April 2010, I was employed at DMK (Danne Montague-King) for 5 ½ years as the Cosmetics Operations Coordinator. Having makeup industry experience, I also lead training sessions and makeup consultations during seminars and trade shows. I fell in love with DMK Skin Revision concepts and started to understand more clearly about skincare through the eyes of Danne.
As an immigrant from the Philippines, mother of 4 sons, 3 step sons and a 12 years old grandson and wife, I am no stranger to hard work and taking good care of people. I felt the time was right to set out on my own and make the American dream my reality. With the support of my loving family, May 2016, Skin Artistry opened its doors to the public.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting any business is a challenge and learning opportunity. It is difficult to get clients to commit to their treatment plan. Having them understand their skin condition so that they can get proper care at home and in the spa. Clients coming back for their monthly treatments is challenging with how busy schedules can be. Finding new clients and getting exposure for my business can be tough.
