Meet Chelsea Pollard

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Pollard.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Since I was little, I always knew I wanted to be a model. My favorite show growing up was “America’s Next Top Model.” And I would always dream of being on that show and winning the competition, taking my career off. But modeling is not as easy as it seems.

I’ve spent most of my career doing freelance modeling. I’ve had to plan my own photoshoots to build my portfolio. I was my own stylist, hair and makeup artist, and manager, all I had to do was find photographers (until I got to the point of working with talented stylists and makeup artists). I would keep doing this until I felt I had a good selection of pictures, then go to agencies which of whom all told me “no.” All of those rejections never made me lose hope of my dreams and goals. And even though I am now signed to a mother agency and shooting more than I was before, I’m still not where I want to be in my career but will continue to work hard until I become successful in this industry.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The number one struggle of being a freelance model is not having the opportunity to find jobs often. Most high-end modeling jobs are booked through agencies because they have the connections. There would be times where I would go months without booking my next photoshoot. In addition to this, freelance models do not get taken as seriously as models signed to those competitive agencies. I just have to work harder to stand out and will continue to do so.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I think what sets me apart from others is that I am determined to be successful and I am very hands-on in my modeling. When planning my photoshoots, I try to create an image, not just a picture, but art, a story, something that sets me and this photograph apart from others. I will never give up on this dream I have for myself. I’m doing this for myself. Therefore, I keep putting myself out there.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plan for the future is to just keep pushing and keep working until greater things unfold.
