Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Freeborn.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Well, I’m not your traditional woman by any sense of the way. I’ve always known I wanted to be a business owner and CEO. Recently while organizing old files, I found business cards I made for myself when I was somewhere between 11-12. They said, Chelsea Freeborn, CEO of Whatever, a fax number was included. For some reason, the majority of my life I have been in a place of leadership, sometimes by choice, sometimes not, and never by the standard and or traditional route.
I started my career in the Fashion Industry when I was 11 — introducing me to a world beyond normality and tradition. Most of it was ran off of, money, beauty, and power. I dropped out of high school to continue that career path full time and travel globally. Effortlessly it landed me in New York City with no real sense of what I wanted to do or of who I was. So, I did what any regular high school drop out with a dream would do. I went back and got my GED.
Shortly after, I realized I was expiring in my industry, and I started to put pieces of my life together. I got creative and started catering. This is where I met my longtime mentor and now, a trusted business associate in events. During the same time, a desire to share my story and or expose what I had been thru manifested and I took my first bat at the film industry. Creating a documentary called This is Perfection; a documentary series on the social standards of beauty from the model’s standpoint. This was in 2011-2012, right before the social molds began to crack… let’s say it ended my career in fashion. Being told I was too pretty to be smart and ask so many questions.
So, I went back to school for a degree and allowed myself to explore the world of options. Finally settling at being my own boss and creating a Creative Marketing Consultancy and Event production Company.
(Freeborn Productions + Goddess Rebellion Retreats)
Where I manage and produce events, digital content, marketing, and campaigns for affluent individuals and brands. While curating an undertone of spiritual development, health, and wellness.
How did I get here? It’s straightforward, I asked questions, took action, heard No, followed yes and let Good, Orderly, Direction, do the rest. I sit as a founder of three companies, consultant for start-ups and travel three months out of the year producing privatized specialty events.
I’m still learning today, but at a larger scale, and with my skin in the game. Startups aren’t easy; being an Entrepreneur isn’t as glam as Instagram shows it to be… however, being MISS CEO of Whatever has never felt so good.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not still easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, and I wouldn’t value it if it were. Look, I deal with people every day. People come with their issues and history. So, my best asset has been developing empathy and understanding that no matter what, everything works out.
On another note, the person I deal with the most is myself. If I don’t have “her” (= me) together or a foundation to work from, the wheels fall off.
My foundation is super simple and curated with a few questions:
- Is this getting me closer to my goal?
- Does this need to be said right now?
- Will this matter in five years?
- Is this kind?
- Whose will is this?
- I’m of service?
Now back to the question. It took me a long time to figure out what my needs, wants and real desires are. I’ve failed a college course at the school of my dreams. I broke off a life many would only dream of because it was dreamed up for me and felt like a nightmare. I’ve called off an engagement, cut off close friends and removed myself from jobs because it was taking me away from my purpose.
While consistently putting my ego aside and realizing I can’t do everything. These moments come from self reflection and care, which for me was discovering I have a learning disability and mental illness (yes, I said it) that have to be managed for me to be successful and accountable. While also getting comfortable with the best two-letter word, NO.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Freeborn Productions:: Goddess Rebellion story. Tell us more about the business.
Freeborn Productions is my primary entity for a few things. However, it’s primary purpose is Creating Memories and Experiences as a full-service marketing and production company. Under this, I have Goddess Rebellion Retreat with my business partner Stephanie Kay Meyer. Goddess Rebellion Retreat is a female retreat company helping women navigate life Thru Mind, Body, and Soul.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck. I think action, dedication, and self-reflection open you to a world of possibility.
