Meet Charles Tech

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles Tech.

Charles, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Chris Brown, in the world of tech I’m known as Charles Tech. I grew up in Los Angeles, CA in the inner city. I was fortunate enough sports provided a corridor for me to attend the University of North Dakota on a scholarship. While attending UND, I had a great time playing football, however, during my senior year I decided to leave the team. Not because things were going bad, but only to find out at the age of 22 was the first time I ever met a black surgeon, a plastic surgeon. From that moment, I dropped everything and dove straight into medicine. Long story short, things turned out ok, I published some papers, did some cool surgeries, and then COVID HIT!! Stopped everything! Now…Central. I created Central because I was devastated by all the small businesses who faced quick declines after all their years of hard work. I assure, now that Central is around, small businesses will have a competing chance to not only survive but to thrive and provide for their families.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Oh, how I wish it was a smooth road! (lol). I can say this, it has been a fun experience. I love the lows and we’re continuing to learn from them all as we scale and develop more features with Central. One of the biggest struggles for us has been locating resources to help us expand to more cities so we can touch more small businesses, fulfill more hearts, and make sure people are excited when they think about the future.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I would say I specialize in thinking of creative ways to help a large number of people achieve a common goal. My whole purpose is to give people something exciting to look forward to when they think about the future. With having a background in biotech and physiology, I began to realize in order to create a wishful future, we have to make sure there’s a livable present. Meaning, as a small business (SMB) owner, if you are struggling month to month it will become very difficult to take care of your health, mental stability, and more. However, if we’re able to offer you a tool that will decrease your suffering as a SMB you might have more time and resources to give attention to your health. You might just be able to catch a preventable disease earlier rather than later, resulting in a happy future.

I’m most proud of my ability to take risks and realize actually that the sky is the limit. For me to withdraw from my college graduation one day before and start studying a field of medicine with no background, failing science classes in high school, and then coming out on top is amazing. I couldn’t even imagine that I would be in that position as a little kid.

What sets me apart from others is that I always find a way to give others credit. I think we need to give people a lot more credit in this world for even the little things. What’s most important to me is making sure that everyone who comes in contact with me feels inspired and never less then.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Have to be pro-active, and that’s coming from real-life experience. My first year, I decided to go into medicine I was shadowing surgeons, peer teaching, and doing research. That all came from me actively reaching out to the Dean of the Medical School through my advisor who’s husband was my anatomy teacher who so happen to be the dean of admissions. Also, within my first three years, I was scrubbing into well over 100 surgeries! I was doing more than 1st year doctors! However, my mentor I met from seeking medical attention. I asked to come shadow… Three years later, I was right by his side.

In the world of Tech, Twitter has been my best friend. I have literally established so many connections and active advisors from Facebook and other big tech companies. It’s important to always be yourself and never be afraid to just ask.
