Today we’d like to introduce you to Chaka Stewart.
Chaka, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started FlipSide, formerly known as “Consider It Well Done”, two years ago. Having been in the event industry for the past 15 years, working in a host of positions, such as server, bartender, sous chef, and day of coordinator, I realized this was an industry need. I noticed there was always the same problem at the end of the night “WHO’s taking the TRASH?” and no one ever had an answer. I began to think of a process to ensure there was an efficient cleanup at the close of an event. How could I offer a service to meet this need?
While working with a group of event planning friends on the annual Polo Tournament where the cleaning crew was substandard, I knew that the aftermath of a large-scale event required special services. This is where the idea of “FlipSide” began. After my friends and I spent the evening cleaning, they suggested that someone should start an event cleaning company. They stressed the importance that this crew should know what event cleaning is all about. After this night of discussion and motivation from the group, I decided to put my all into creating this event cleaning company, which only specializes in the clean-up needs before, during and after EVENTS! From there, I collaborated/Partnered with a former co-worker to make this a reality. The Fabulous “Ashley Etchings” and I restructured and re-named “Consider It Well Done” to “FlipSide Event Clean Up”.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our biggest struggle to date has been the onboarding process of hiring independent contractors to service each event. Because contractors are part time in as needed positions, it is hard to keep available and dedicated workers.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
When we recently secured one of our largest contracts to date with Brown Hot Events and Veuve Clicquot 10th Anniversary Polo Tournament. We employed 75 contractors for three separate locations. We did it in record time receiving compliments from many!
