Meet Cesar Cummings

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cesar Cummings.

Cesar, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Back in 2005, I attend fashion school at FIDM and quickly I felt like an outsider being a plus-size queer beauty. No one understood me nor did that care so I dropped out after realizing that the fashion industry wasn’t inclusive.

Upon dropping out the bills started piling up so I have to start working a full-time job in retail start making payments for all those school loans.

I tried looking for work in the fashion industry but nobody wanted to hire a plus-size queer Beauty such as myself. So I ended up putting my dreams of becoming a fashion designer on hold just to be able to make payments on my debt.

Flash forward to now I’ve been attending school at LATTC for Fashion Design and killin It! Two years ago I started making costumes for new friends.

Now I make commissions for anyone who struggles finding their sizes. My size range starts 00 to a 30 it all depends on my clients.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has never been a smooth road for any Inner city creative to obtain the proper knowledge tools and supplies to create art.

Here I am making my dreams a reality by working hard every day. I say every project today is preparing me for the next project tomorrow.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Cesar Cummings Studio – what should we know?
So my business is in the beginning stages very independent but thanks to social media in reliable friends I’m able to create clothing costumes and accessories for anyone interested in Custom.

I make anything that people can’t find and their size on online or in stores that may be a swimsuit or a gown so it all depends on what the customer wants.

I specialize in inclusivity and customization for each individual body. I judge no one being a plus-size person myself it’s very challenging if I’m clothing that’s fashionable colorful and fun. Love adding personality to everything I make.

One of my proudest moments was customizing costumes for Jarina De Marco for her music video called identity crisis. We collab this past spring and the video just dropped! Check it out on YouTube. She’s so talented.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Well, I have a few key points that I always use when working with someone new. They are honesty an open mind and communication. If the client can’t make an effort to meet me 50% of the way, then we won’t have a successful exchange.

Pricing:

  • Most of my Comission start at $500 and up, for smaller projects they start out $200.
