Meet Catalina Gutierrez of Long Beach, Ca

Today we’d like to introduce you to Catalina Gutierrez

Hi Catalina, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My love for vintage clothes started in high school in the 80s. I would find the most amazing designs and started to collect. I was drawn to the old rayon textiles and wild 1930’s/40s color ways.I just fell in love with the design and details. In the early 90s I moved to L.A and worked at several vintage shops. I worked at Wasteland and Denim Ville (a denim bar owned by American Rag) and Jet Rag. I began to understand the history of the vintage I was buying.

I show my collection at Inspiration L.A (a very special vintage clothing) every year for the past 10 years. I started managing Denim Doctors 10 years ago, this is where I learned the art of denim repair. Five years later I set up shop in (Hole Lotta Love denim repair) in Long Beach California. I take pride in offering all the special denim repair services. These two business go hand in hand and I’m very proud of what I put out there.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being a woman in the denim repair/vintage business comes with its challenges. I’m so grateful to have a community of friends and colleagues I can lean on and learn from.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I offer a very special kind of invisible denim repair. I have a Consew 207, a vintage Japanese darning machine. I offer chain stitch hems and other denim alteration services that concentrate on preserving the integrity of your jeans. My denim repair business is called ‘Hole’ Lotta Love.

My vintage clothing business is Catalina of California. I collect and sell rare vintage clothing.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t know about luck, I’ve been at this a very long time.
