Meet Casilda García López of Tierra Extraña

Today we’d like to introduce you to Casilda García López.

Casilda García López

Hi Casilda, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I first arrived in New York City, drawn by NYU’s lack of campus and the USA’s academic freedom – where you can start as undecided until you find your true calling. My only purpose was to find a career path where my University and I could both excel. That’s where I landed on “Film & TV Production,” as business, image-making, and storytelling – touching upon all of my passions – aligned.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road is never smooth, and that’s the fun of it; I grow when facing difficulties. In times of unfulfilling work, I started my own brand – Tierra Extraña – to bring Spanish productions to NYC. I’ve learned to take challenging periods as ones of reflection for months (sometimes years) of hectic, non-stop work. As Spanish poet, Machado, once and forever said: “Walker, there is no path; the path is made by walking.”

We’ve been impressed with Tierra Extraña, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Tierra Extraña is a living social network for New York’s Spanish diaspora, encouraging each other’s feats and initiatives. Bringing Spain to life in NY through the creative Production of events, shoots and ultimately fusing both cultures.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Silence. Nowadays, it’s rare to allow oneself to think without outer noise. I go on my morning runs without music and have stopped using my Airpods on the subway. Spend time by yourself. Those pauses allow me to draw closer to my intuition and be truer to where I can succeed both in my personal and professional life.
