Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Mayo.
Casey, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Before finding Sleep Wise and beginning my career as a Pediatric Sleep Consultant, I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Oklahoma. I got married and moved to the great state of California and landed in Los Angeles California, where we started our little family.
Mentors and other mothers encouraged me to read books about infant sleep. Being the person I am, I knew that this would be vital to my sanity as a mother because sleep is important to me. I didn’t want to be the parent with the kids who didn’t sleep. I devoured every book and material I could and was prepared when our daughter came home from the hospital. She followed the timeline, had the sleep hygiene I hoped for and was sleeping through the night by 11 weeks old. I had done it! I considered myself so knowledgeable that I begin to help my friends and family get their kids the same quality sleep mix was getting.
I happened upon Sleep Wise Consulting in a Facebook group. I saw what a huge impact they were making in the world of moms and I was in awe and immediately jumped at the opportunity of possibly working for them one day. I set up an interview with the CEO, right as I was about to give birth to our second. I was hoping to transition from being an office administrator to doing something I was passionate about, SLEEP!! Plus, I also wanted the opportunity to run my own business, set my own schedule and be home with my kids. It fit perfectly!
I was hired in April 2018. It was immediately the perfect fit and the answer to the journey I had been on since graduating so many years earlier….what would my career be? How could I find something that I was so passionate about that I was excited to work every day? Here it was!!
I’ve now helped over 80 families get the sleep they deserve! I’ve seen marriages saved, kids start thriving and bad behavior cease. I’ve heard tears of joy on the other end as mothers recount what it was like before and how it is now and it reminds me each time why I do what I do.
Has it been a smooth road?
I would say it’s been very smooth, but like any career, there have been struggles. I struggled at the beginning with finding the groove of being at home with my kids but also working at a career I love from home. It was hard to figure out when my “on time” was and when my downtime was.
And of course, I would say that it’s there is a learning curve. The more parents I work with, the more experiences I have and the more complicated issues arise. But there hasn’t been a family I haven’t been able to help. Each family sees the goal for their family’s sleep met when we close out.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Sleep Wise Consulting – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Sleep Wise Consulting teaches parents how to help their children sleep 12 hours a night. I connect with mothers and fathers, get to know their children and the issues that are specific to their situation and formulate a plan that best fits their needs to make sure they see the results they want in regards to sleep. My clients all get a plan from me that goes into great detail about each of the struggles they are facing and gives them solutions.
What makes me different than other Pediatric Sleep Consultants is that I not only give a plan for the family to follow, I walk them through it and continue to work with them until they see the results they are hoping for. Usually, it’s a 2-3 week time span (longer for newborns). Also, I’m on a team of over 20 other sleep consultants, so if I don’t have the answer to a certain special situation, one of my colleagues will. Each of us comes with a certain specialty that makes them unique, this helps our team to be well versed in all areas pertaining to children.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I’ve told my husband many times over that if he wasn’t in the film industry, I would never leave. Los Angeles has become our home. We have been here for eight years now and I fall in love with it more every day. I love the people, the diversity, the food, entertainment, culture and believe it not the crowd. I love that it is far from a sleepy town. I love the hustle and bustle of people reaching for their dreams. This city hardly sleeps and it’s because it’s full of dreamers like me….working to make a dream/career a reality.
The traffic is my least favorite part. But that’s the only thing I can think of.
