Today we’d like to introduce you to Carter Ace.
Carter, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Half of my bandmates are first-generation Americans and we’re all were born in the valley or at least nearby so we got most of our musical influences from un-American music. I met my drummer Gio and my guitarist Fahem at a Sam Ash in Canoga Park and asked Gio to join me for this open mic there they hosted every Wednesday. He barely heard the song but already knew the swing and the idea I was trying to convey within the song and that impressed me so much that I immediately tried to form a band. The valley was where a lot of firsts happened for us; from our first show at the now-defunct WOMA to our first EP release.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our journey has been all over the place since the beginning. At first, we didn’t have cars. My mom didn’t enjoy me making music, none of us could afford anything because we didn’t have jobs. I was also the only one producing at the time so everyone relied on me for mixes. We were also young kids going through our own personal obstacles and that was the hardest part. For the four years, we’ve been working together, we’ve grown a lot as musicians and even more as people. Everyone finally Ableton so now our songs sound more like ‘us’ rather than ‘me’
Please tell us about your work.
I’m a frontman, writer, and producer of Carter Ace. The biggest difference between us and other performers is literally our performances. I love interacting with people from stage and turning our shows into a living room. I feel like some people get too caught up in their egos and can’t let go of it on stage. My job is to embarrass myself as much as possible to make everyone else feel comfortable. My EP “Music’s Better Than People” is coming out in September!
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
There was a time from 7th-9th grade when I would just be with my cousins all the time at their place. We had this little community where other kids from our school lived and we’d just ride bikes and swim every day and record all night.
