Today we’d like to introduce you to Carmen Margaziotis.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When I got my first paycheck in the entertainment business, I wanted to spend it on an acupuncture treatment. Growing up my best friend’s dad was an acupuncturist so, I always heard about it. It sounded like magic in a lot of ways. Once I started getting treated I never stopped. My acupuncturist, Neil, helped me through everything. Whether I had a cold, was feeling overwhelmed or going through a breakup I always felt like I could handle whatever came my way. It was because of acupuncture that I felt grounded through a lot of ups and downs. After ten years in the entertainment business, I was considering another career. I was excited about helping people and wondered if I should be a therapist or a counselor of some sort. Funny, the thought of being an acupuncturist never even crossed my mind until that same best friend mentioned it to me one day. I was like what?! I could do that? It really was the a-ha moment of my life.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Definitely, the business of starting a business was super challenging. I went to acupuncture school, not business school. Figuring out how to run a business and dealing with all the mental obstacles of building something has been a long, evolving process. When you start thinking about marketing yourself you have to be really clear about who you are and as a beginning acupuncturist, I just didn’t know yet. I had to understand my vision of myself, my company and who I was trying to serve. And then throw becoming a mom into the mix and trying to navigate balance. I’m grateful for everything I’ve been through but it certainly hasn’t been easy! I’m still learning but now I’m having a lot of fun embracing the entrepreneurial side of myself.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My mission in life is to help people fulfill their dreams. So, my approach is to meet people exactly where they are and go from there. People often think I’m going to say something they do is bad or wrong but it’s not, it’s just what’s going on. If they are committed to creating something else in their life then that’s what I’m helping them with. To get there whenever and however is best for them. Everyone is unique so no one’s path is going to be the same. I mostly focus on stress management and mental well-being. I have a multi-layered approach to healing. Beyond acupuncture, I add a few different modalities, like Neuro-Emotional Technique and Reiki, that all complement each other and create a deeper shift in the mind and body. I even consider my office part of the healing process. I’ve created a beautiful, calm, boutique-like environment that helps people feel like they are stepping into a cozy, safe space. A lot of my client’s joke and often say that was the best therapy session. Mostly I help you clear all the stuff that goes on in your head that prevents you from living the life you want. I sincerely believe in creating a partnership with clients where they are empowered and given the tools to be able to flourish on their own.
What were you like growing up?
I think I’ve always been an extroverted introvert. I was an only child so I’m great at being alone and observing. I struggled with social anxiety a lot but loved people. I was fascinated by relationships and why people were who they were. I was always drawn to magic and mysticism and at 13 I started exploring spirituality. I’ve always been an avid reader and that is true to this day. My current goal is a book a week.
