Meet Carlos Santos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Santos.

Carlos, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in Puerto Rico. After my freshman year of college, I moved to California, where I studied theatre at Fresno State before moving to Los Angeles to pursue my acting/comedy career.

I took a detour into hosting. My first steady job was working as host for the bilingual television station LATV, and after a few years, I moved to NYC to work at MTV Tres.

After I moved back to LA in 2011. I “gave up” hosting and started from scratch to focus on Acting and Comedy. Since then, I’ve done a few movies (Ghost Team One, Yo Soy un Político), and some TV shows (Last Man on Earth, 2 Broke Girls) but my biggest break so far came this year when I was cast as a series regular for a new Netflix show called Gentefied. The 1st season is already in the can and I couldn’t be more excited/proud for the show to come out.

I’m also very much involved at UCB (Upright Citizens Brigade) where I co-host the All LatinX Variety Show “Spanish Aqui Presents”, and I’ve been on “UCB Maude” (House Sketch Teams) for two seasons.

Spanish Aqui Presents also debuted a new podcast on Earwolf/Stitcher in June so I’ve been very grateful for a busy summer.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It. Has. Not. After I stopped hosting, I struggled for the first few years because I kept turning down work as a host. I made a conscious decision to only go after acting/comedy projects and as a result, I struggled financially. However, the gamble paid off, and I was able to, not only survive, but eventually thrive on theatrical and commercial work. Thankfully, I made it out in one piece.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m an Actor/Writer/Comedian and my company Saint-Lamb Productions is just getting started.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am looking forward to finally seeing Gentefied on Netflix. I had such an amazing experience working on this project and I simply cannot wait to see the finished product.
