Today we’d like to introduce you to Carla Weier.
Carla, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was in retail management for a number of years and it didn’t fulfill me. Through my own experience of incorporating healthy lifestyle, exercise, and sound nutrition I found a new career path to help others be the best they can be.
I started as a personal trainer at an Equinox club on Wall Street while attending the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in NYC. Along the way, I became involved in endurance sports, specifically marathons and triathlons and sought additional certifications to train athletes.
As my career evolved I learned how to take my interests and management skills and build a business as an independent trainer and triathlon coach.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Fortunately, my career choice helps me to be energetic and focused on what matters most; helping others. With physical activity, balanced nutrition, and great sleep habits I’m able to stay focused on attaining short term and long term goals to build my business. I would say the largest struggle has been having little outside help to run and build a company. I’ve had to acknowledge I lack skills in certain areas that are needed to build and sustain a business. I have to prioritize what to work on next and then learn those skills myself. For example using social media, creating advertising images and campaigns, and networking,
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Compleat Fitness – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I primarily work with clients one-on-one in a private gym setting. Most of my clients come to me, sometimes I travel to them, and athletes have the benefit of working with me outdoors for swimming, biking and running.
What separates me from a lot of trainers is that I’m always listening to my clients’ needs and what’s going on in their daily lives. Aside from the actual training, I’m thinking of what I can do to help them outside the gym. This can involve more discussion on nutrition, spending additional time on a muscle imbalance or old injury that’s nagging them, giving them flexibility and core homework, suggesting ways to incorporate better sleep habits. People often come to me with little understanding of the effect of all the things they do or don’t do outside our sessions and how this relates to their results. I help them see what they could improve upon outside our time together and set goals as well as suggestions on how to meet those goals.
I’m certified as a personal trainer, holistic health counselor, running coach, and triathlon coach. I specialize in pre and post natal, fat loss, small group training, athletic performance, and total health and wellness.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I moved to Los Angeles from Brooklyn, NY in August of 2015 and am therefore focusing on building up my client base. The amazing weather here has allowed me to shift more of my time to training outdoors and working with triathletes which I love!
