Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessie Lynn Montgomery.
Jessie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Hi there! I am Jessie Lynn Montgomery. I serve as a holistic mindset coach, founder and mentor at Career Discovery and recently honored as the 2018 Influencer of the Year by the International Association of Women. My aim on earth is to help individuals light up and strengthen lives for service, leadership, and purpose.
In that spirit, I help people become stronger versions of themselves… I want to come clean and admit that I spent many years of my life in the wrong career. Not knowing what calling I had on my life, I worked several retail management jobs and even successfully climbed the corporate ladder. If you looked at my paycheck, and my resume, you would think that I was a success like most top-ranked business professionals.
After I completed my master’s degree, I started to feel incomplete and unfulfilled with my line of work. I ended my master’s journey with a degree in hand but also with a clouded mind around what my life’s purpose was. I noticed that many of my fellow peers at college graduated with the same feeling – high levels of uncertainty and a lack of clarity around what their career path should be. For this reason, I made the decision to do very deep interpersonal work, the same work outlined in the Career Discovery Modules, and it took me on an amazing journey, which changed the course of my life.
That decision to do the work, single-handedly, was one of the best decisions that I ever made. Leading up to my breakthrough, I completed deep interpersonal work that led me to realize that I had a passion for mentorship. I would often embrace others, offer career advice, and leverage my business acumen skillset to colleagues as they started their small business ventures of their own.
It was this passion and my natural desire to help others succeed in their career that resulted in the birth of my company, Career Discovery. I created this company and handbook (coming out in September 2018) because I refused to believe that I was put on this earth to simply climb the corporate ladder or chase a company’s sales goal. I tapped into my higher purpose and am now living the life of my dreams and creating value for millions.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
One of my favorite quotes is that success happens overnights… many nights. Many nights of releasing self-deprecating beliefs about my talents. Releasing fear of stepping into my own light and walking in my own brilliance. Allowing myself to create something that was a distinct void in the market. Listening to the inner callings of my soul. Allowing my choices to build momentum. Trusting my path. Its been a journey of self-realization and discovery.
My journey has definitely not been smooth. I grew up in a very unstable environment, was in foster care for 12 years old and believed like many, that I wasn’t worth much. If you can imagine life in foster care and all that can happen… allow your mind to think up as many painful experiences possible. There’s nothing that one can’t imagine that I didn’t experience in that time period but I overcame it. The pain in my past does not define me. Without going into details, I’d like to share that I simply had to unravel over 25 years of pain and allow myself to see myself for who I truly am.
At 36, I began to see myself differently as I realized that I was not any of the negative experiences that I had been through. I share these things not to make people feel sorry for me, but to instead share that if I can make it and not become a statistic, not fall prey to drugs, suicide, or allow my mind to detail my success than anyone can make it. We all can make it. We all can overcome our fears, our pain, our toxic habits and press forward to create a beautiful life that we all deserve to have.

When I read that a Gallop study found seventy percent of America’s workforce was unfulfilled with their work and unhappy with their jobs, I set out to do something to change that number. I created Career Discovery as a call to action to inspire people to become stronger versions of themselves. I am facilitating the Mental Optimization Development Series
We are taught to select an industry and work the corporate ladder. Rarely does someone come along and says, “you have the ability to create your own path”. I help people align their passions with purpose and then create money doing what they love. In the Career Discovery work, I serve as a guide to help clients through what I call “a real-life interpersonal scavenger hunt” to tap into the hidden treasure within. Clients complete three modules: The first module is for Mental Optimization.
This module is designed to equip clients with techniques to expand their neuroplasticity so that they can operate at their highest potential. The second module is for Passion & Purpose Alignment. This module will equip clients to move forward in their life on their own journey following the callings on their soul. The third module is the Business Model Creation designed to equip clients with strategies to earn money doing what they love.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My aim is to simply create value for millions of lives by helping people become stronger versions of themselves. It is my aim that Career Discovery soon becomes a household name. That every college student embarks on the discovery process so that they do not graduate with just a degree but also with clarity on what their life’s purpose is.
For the young adult who is confused about what their life’s purpose is. To the one who needs to know that there is more to life than what currently is. This process was created for anyone looking to connect to his or her higher self and operate at full capacity.
