Meet Candy Hinojosa of Socal Nails in Anaheim

Today we’d like to introduce you to Candy Hinojosa.

Candy – please share your story with us.
I got my California Manicurist License in 2008. When I tried to get a position, I realized that, as many other licensed Manicurists, I knew a lot about rules and regulations, but I was lacking the “artistic” touch and knowledge to do a “great” nail decoration job.

I started to look for a place where to learn the “real world” that goes beyond sanitation, procedures and regulations, important factors in the industry, but not all that is needed to become a high demand manicurist.

It took many doors knocked to find that place with no luck, until I realized I had to go abroad to get that extra artistic touch of talent, I took every single nail decoration class in Mexico to become proficient and fill the gap between State Examination (sanitation, rules, regulations and basics of manicure) and the Artistic world of demanding clients looking to impress with their nail styles.

Once back, I decided to start Southern California Nails (shorten as SoCal Nails for marketing purposes) a place where I will train all those clueless brand new Nail Technicians and show them what is required to be proficient in the real world, with demanding clients, hungry for new designs, original creations, full of coquetry and shiny stones.

It was a REAL success… we had classrooms full of Nail Technicians eager to learn all those new techniques, to learn new trendings, new products and even learning the basics of the industry. We started to realize that the gap is larger than we thought and started to work harder and harder since then… until …

We found that low quality products flooded the industry, of course because their inexpensive pricing. Then we’ve applied the saying: “cheap goes expensive” and kept away from those products coming from China and other parts of shady reputation that won’t follow American regulations.

To accomplish this, we then open a Nails Supply in Anaheim California. We may not be the cheapest in the industry, but rest assured you’ll get high quality products from us that will comply and exceed every single federal rules and Regulations. We will not settle for anything less that excellent product and that was quickly understood by all those girls that, not living in California, will daily place orders through our online shopping cart knowing that they are protecting the industry and their reputation as Nail Technicians.

Our philosophy is to be second to none in quality of products and be among the best places to learn the real world nail salon industry, an industry full of talented girls where you can find many talented technicians, and we are here to give all the support they need …

Please tell us about Socal Nails.
We have put together the best of two worlds: The American Rules and Procedures for safety and sanitation and the Latino style for nail decoration, full of colors, artistic designs, shiny rhinestones, great 3D designs …

We are proud to be among the first places that took the nail industry beyond the basic French manicures, we added vivid colors, intense designs, joyful artwork, fancy and coquetry nail decoration.

Daily, we receive people from different cultures as Russian, Asian, black, white and Latino Nail Technicians that come to get trained to enhance their repertory.

We have gone from 99% Latino audience, all the way to 67% from other cultures which tell us that we have impregnated our hard work, dedication and high-level nail decoration to the industry as a whole.

We are humbly proud of the way we have growth…

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
We have ran out of space so quickly, that if I could, I would start in a bigger place…

Other than that, I would do it all over the same way again.
