Meet Candace Sciarra

Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace Sciarra.

Candace Sciarra

Hi Candace, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I started in musical theater performing regionally in popular shows such as Snow White. After falling in love with performing, I decided to start writing my own songs and really enjoyed the process of writing music but didn’t know how to put it into a full production. I decided to find a local producer who helped me put my ideas into songs, and the rest is history! It led me to having multiple projects of my own, getting involved into the sync world, as well as helping other artists reach their goals in the music industry!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I don’t think there is a smooth road in the entertainment industry. It’s such a hard career to navigate because there is isn’t one way to do things. There are many roads you can technically take, and it’s all based off a series of choices. My biggest struggle was when I was starting out and didn’t have a clue how to release music or promote myself as an artist, especially in a big city such as Los Angeles. I had so much music laying around I couldn’t do anything with which lead me to being independent and figuring out how to be my own label. That also opened up opportunities getting placements on TV shows.

Another big struggle has been navigating the new music industry in terms of social media and the overconsumption of content on a daily basis. There are so many artists fighting for attention, and it can be easy to get burnt out or get lost in the noise. You really have to pace yourself and learn to build up a business and brand, which, as an artist, we were not taught to do. The goal was always to get a record deal and tour. But that’s no longer the case.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an alternative pop artist and songstress. My music is a mixture of electronica, cinematic, and pop. I have always loved TV/Film growing up as an actress. Then add in the fact I was a figure skater who was skating to the latest movie soundtracks it made so much sense to fall into cinematic music. I have had placements in TV shows such as Cruel Summer and support from amazing publications such as Lady Gunn and Billboard Argentina.

I’m known for making dark, ethereal music that takes you on a musical journey.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
The biggest risk I have taken is pursuing the music industry. There is no guarantee in it, and it can be difficult to support yourself as a full-time musician. There is just so much uncertainty. But I am glad I took the risk, and it’s so fun to be able to make music and be a voice to other people. I do tend to be a big risk taker and always trying new things. I think it keeps life interesting and it keeps you learning
