Today we’d like to introduce you to Camille Langston.
Camille, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My journey really started as a young girl growing up in Detroit. I was very sensitive to spirits and energy as a child and could see and communicate with them at will. Once I was old enough to verbalize what I was seeing, I realized I was “weird and strange” for talking about it. I was told by adults that I was either just imagining things or that I was seeing evil things and should stop immediately. Other people’s reactions to my abilities scared me to the point of wanting the visions to go away so bad that I shut it down. By the time I was 12 or 13 all memory of me being able to see auras and spirits was gone and it wasn’t until my first Reiki healing that I remembered. During that first healing I had an intense vision of my great grandmother Birdie, who passed away when I was 11.
For a couple of months after she passed, I would talk to her in my bedroom and we’d have full conversations. One day I was caught and was too scared to reach out again; but in this vision Grandma Birdie asked me why I stopped talking to her. As soon as she said those words, I was shown again all the memories of me talking to fairies and spirits and seeing auras on plants and animals as a child. When I woke up from the healing (which was only 20 minutes long!) my friend who gave me the healing told me what she saw before I shared with her what I saw, and turned out we saw the exact same thing. Since my friend who gave me the healing was only a Reiki level 1 initiate, she wasn’t able to go into much detail about what had just happened or why. This forced me to trust my gut and seek knowledge from books, meditations, and most importantly Reiki Master Teachers. I didn’t have a clue as to what Reiki was at the time but I knew that vision was as real as they come, and I intended to listen to my Grandmother’s wisdom. Fast forward to now and I’m a Reiki Master Teacher with 18 students and counting and still learning everyday.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Haha a smooth road, what’s that?! I’d say the biggest struggle is continually choosing to trust myself despite what others say or feel about what I do or how I do it. I believe this is a lifelong lesson and a Divine Balancing Act. One has to be confident in themselves and their abilities/modalities; But one should also always be open to learning more and accepting the fact that none of us really know how this thing called life works. If we did we would all be eternally happy and wouldn’t need to be alive or experience anything. I’m constantly learning and constantly humbled and grateful for my clients, students, elders, and Ancestors. At the end of the day the healing work I do isn’t about me.
At the core of what I do is the act of opening myself up as a vessel for the healing energy to flow and go where it’s needed. My intention is always to let Goddess/God work through me for the highest good of all. And I want to emphasize that ANYONE can do this work at a high level with enough practice and discipline. Everyone is innately a healer. This doesn’t mean everyone has to change their career to be a healer, but at least claim your healing within yourself. Our bodies naturally heal themselves when something isn’t in alignment so it’s literally embedded in our DNA. However if we truly want to heal we have to open up on all levels to the reality of our healing. If we’re in denial, ignorance, or subconsciously believe we don’t deserve healing, we slow everything down.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Reiki Medicine Goddess story. Tell us more about the business.
I offer a myriad of services via my business Reiki Medicine Goddess. I’ve been studying the Usui Shiki Ryoho method of Reiki for almost ten years and I am a Reiki Master Teacher. I do Reiki healings and I also offer certifications for those that wish to learn how to do Reiki themselves. For those that don’t know, Reiki is an energy healing modality that helps balance your mind/body/soul system by tapping into Universal Life-force Energy (chi, prana, ki). With consistent use it can have physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual benefits. I also do a lot of clairvoyant tarot readings and mediumship sessions — meaning I connect with my own and my client’s spirit guides while using the cards as a guidepost. This allows us to go deeper in sessions together to get to the root of things.
In addition, I work a lot with plants and herbs in a variety of ways including aromatherapy items, organic smoke blends, dressed intention candles (which I’ve learned from my own ancestry), and tinctures for a variety of health concerns — hence the “Medicine” in Reiki Medicine Goddess! I would say, especially with my Reiki healings, what sets me apart from the thousands of other healers in the area is that my healings are shamanic in nature, meaning I use my mediumship abilities to connect with mine and the client’s higher self, ancestors, guides, etc. I use sound tools, essential oils, music and singing during my sessions to help clear a person’s energy field and open up, close down, or cut whatever is blocking them. Some of my techniques are pure Reiki, and some of them I’ve learned from my ancestors. After my Reiki sessions, I sit with my clients and communicate with them what I saw and channel information for them. I also give spiritual homework! That can look like shifting (or beginning!) their meditative practice, healing baths, personalized rituals, or habits to build into their lives to assist in continuing the work beyond the two hours I spend with them.
After living in LA for six years, I find a lot of healers to be somewhat ungrounded because they aren’t connected to a spiritual path in which they come from or haven’t spent enough time studying in-depth. There’s a lot of spiritual bypassing, racism, and ignorance in the wellness industry and even my existence is a rebellion. For me personally, honoring my Ancestors comes first. When I connect with them, I’m allowing myself to see my light and my shadow which I believe to be an integral part of true lasting healing. We are not living in a Universe that is just “love and light.” Connecting with and allowing yourself to see the totality of yourself and others is so important, and I do my best to integrate this into all of my healing work on myself and others. Everything I offer for my clients I do for myself, too. My practice and grounding work is daily and it has to be that way otherwise I might get carried away by the drama of it all!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck is an interesting thing. I grew up in Detroit which is one of the blackest cities in America and was raised Christian. I can hear the voice of my grandmother now saying, “You’re not lucky, you’re blessed” — which I suppose is her own way of saying that all good things come from God. Though I don’t claim to be a Christian anymore, I deeply respect anyone’s spiritual beliefs as long as it works for them and they don’t bring harm to others. I believe in blessings and luck. Whatever you want to call it: Law of Attraction, God/Goddess, random luck, etcetera, sometimes you’re just in Divine Alignment for what you want to come to you. When you know who you are, what you want, and you go after it consistently, it comes to you. It’s as simple as that. Do not under any circumstance give up on yourself. Luck finds you on its own time and when you’re already doing the inner and outer work.
