Meet Camille Henderson Davis of The Niche Home in Santa Monica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Camille Henderson Davis.

Camille, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I come from a family of interior designers but took the long way to working in the space full-time. My career started with a PhD in the history of change management and leading HR in corporations. A lot of what I did in HR was this combination of building workplace cultures but also, building the physical elements of the office space to support these cultures. And all along, I was doing residential projects on the side.

When we moved from the East Coast to Santa Monica, it seemed like a natural progression to start my own company to help people navigate changes with physically beautiful spaces that reflect who they are.

We go through so much change at home! We move, start and end relationships, have children and your home should support who you are and where you’re trying to go. I love to help guide that process of discovery and creativity.

It’s humbling and awesome to see how quickly the company has grown. Our team works on everything from small redecorating projects to major home renovations and I can’t wait to get to the office every day and get started. It’s amazing to do what you love.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting something is never easy. I’d never run my own business and there was so much to learn!

But, mistakes are the price you pay for experience and if you can be vulnerable enough to say, “I don’t know how to do this but I want to learn, can you help me?” there are so many people willing to show you how to make it work. I’m so grateful for the generosity people have shown me and the creative partnerships that have come from that.

Please tell us about The Niche Home.
We’re an interior design company that does primarily residential projects. We specialize in getting in the heads of our clients, figuring out what feels like home to THEM and then, making it beautiful and functional.

I’m proud that our clients feel heard, cared for, respected and happy with a well-run process and a great outcome.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
When I began, it was scary to trust myself completely. Everything felt like a huge risk.

Four years later, I can look back and say the one thing I would have done differently was trust that I had what it takes to produce results I could be proud of for our clients.
