Meet Camille Attell of More Than A Wheelin’ and Remote Work School in Orange County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Camille Attell.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Camille. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My husband Bryce and I worked in traditional corporate jobs our whole life. A series of housing and health challenges caused us to re-evaluate if the life we were living was making us happy. We lived in a nice neighborhood in Orange County, CA, worked for a nice company, and minus the health stuff, had little to complain about. There was this gnawing feeling though that time was passing us by and we weren’t engaged with life the way we wanted. That period led us to the decision to do something really drastic — quit our jobs, get rid of most of our possessions, and travel full-time in an RV.

We weren’t sure what we would do for work–we had only ever been employed by companies and worked in cubicles — and had to teach ourselves how to be more entrepreneurial. We started experimenting with different ways to earn income, like blogging, contract work, Pinterest account management, trading stock options etc. In some cases, we simply needed to apply our skills in new ways, and in other cases had to develop new skills.

Over time, we got really good at navigating different remote work paths. Then, I built “Remote Work School”. I was able to combine my years of experience as a corporate trainer, manager and coach, and my nomadic experience to launch my first course, Remote Work 101: Work, Live, and Travel Where You Want. I feel really honored to serve the people in my course. They entrust me to guide them to live a more flexible lifestyle. I help them see how their skills and talents can be used in a number of different remote jobs. I care deeply for others and I believe that people are much more talented then they give themselves credit for. Remote Work School helps them unlock that potential and discover new opportunities.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a wild ride — literally. We are 100% nomadic and that is a huge contrast from being location dependent our entire lives.

Also, being on the go is exciting because you see new places, meet new people, and have awesome experiences. But traveling and building a business at the same time can be daunting. Additionally, Bryce and I had to navigate learning how to live in 250 square feet 24 hours a day.

Building a business as a new entrepreneur is a roller-coaster. Sometimes, I’m so excited and in disbelief that I created this amazing time in my life. Other times, I’m so low because I feel really far away from my vision –which is to help thousands of people uncover their gifts and use them to live freer and more meaningful lives. But I’m just one person in an RV toiling away at this vision. Days when the website goes down, format issues with blog posts or when a video doesn’t load properly, are so aggravating.

I’m not at the stage yet that I can hire full-time help. But, I do understand how critical that will become to grow and scale the business. I’ll report back in 6 months and hopefully, have some automation and systems in place by then. And, I’d love to hire a team someday. I’m passionate about creating work opportunities for people and would love to hire people directly from my program.

More Than A Wheelin’ and Remote Work School – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m proud to help people find a life path that really excites them. I spent years searching and I know what it’s like to feel that you have something to offer the world, but can’t put your finger on what it is. I’m known for seeing talent and potential in people that they can’t see in themselves.

While I currently help people find remote work, what I’m really doing is helping empower and coach them to have more confidence and position themselves for opportunities. It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for a full-time job, freelance, to create a business, be an artist — if you don’t know what you’re truly good at, how to position yourself or you let the “I’m not good enough” voice get in the way, you’ll never meet your potential and will always feel a little disappointed. I help people shed that stuff and step up their game.

My business is unique in that I don’t follow the “ditch the 9-5” be “location independent” trend. That’s everywhere right now and is really appealing. If you look closely, you’ll see that the majority of those offerings are about starting a business online or becoming a digital marketer. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it’s not for everyone.

Take Jennifer, a mid-50s professional who’s decided she’s done with a traditional way of life. She’s only ever worked in an office, followed a schedule, and always reported to a manager. Jennifer isn’t going to go out and start a blog, or a digital business or learn how to be a virtual assistant. She simply wants to transfer her skills to something she can do remotely. She wants to travel more, have flexibility, and some security. Those are the people I serve and I understand the mindset of someone who has always worked in the same type of job or environment for a long time because that was me. It’s really difficult to picture what else you can do and the last thing on your list is to become an “Instagram Influencer.”

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
This is a tough one. I’m proud of a lot so far and I know there’s more to come. But, I think my proudest moment yet is when I helped my first student from Remote Work School get a job. I heard of a position that I knew she’d be perfect for and I made the introduction. It was a great fit for her and the company. I would feel really satisfied if I can do that for everyone in the program.
