Meet Camila Terra of Valentina Terra in Long Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Camila Terra.

Camila, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up as a fashion-loving girl. I was the kind of girl who would make her own costumes for Halloween and other big events – my friends and family thought I was nuts!

But although I was in love with fashion, I didn’t take my passion seriously for many years. People ask me why. The answer is that I come from a Colombian family. In my country, everyone expects you to go to university and pursue a career that will guarantee a high-paying job. So that’s what I did. I went to university and became an Industrial Engineer!

My family was so proud of me. I guess I lost sight of my fashion dream. But then I had a chance to pursue a Master’s in Italy, and I went to work for the Fiat Group. When people think of Fiat, they think of terrifically stylish cars. But Fiat is a whole lot more than that… and for six years, I found myself working on tractors, excavators and trucks! But I wasn’t truly satisfied. I could feel that something was missing from my life.

In Italy, I was in heart of European fashion. You can absolutely breath fashion in the air! Little by little, breathing that air, I rediscovered myself. I started exploring all that Italy has to offer in the way of fashion. And all my childhood dreams came back to me. That’s when my vision for VALENTINA TERRA was born – a luxury leather brand that would reflect my passion for details and perfection.

I guess it was a roundabout way to realize my dream, but thanks to tractors and Italy, I was able to launch myself in the world of Luxury Fashion!

Has it been a smooth road?
Creating VALENTINA TERRA has been a tremendous challenge, and hugely rewarding. To achieve my vision, I needed to find not only the very best sources for top-quality leather, but also the skilled artisans who could produce the beautiful handbags I and my team design.

When I look back, I realize how much chance played a role in helping me along the way, leading me to meet the right people. But it’s also needed lots of dedication and persistence. And courage, too – like when I quit my secure job with Fiat and left Italy behind, so that I could come to Los Angeles to further my dream!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
VALENTINA TERRA makes beautiful, luxury handbags. Our bags are crafted in Colombia by skilled artisans, using leathers that we have personally selected in Colombia and Italy to match the designs that I and my team have developed. For us, every detail counts. Creating a beautiful handbag reflects both who we are and what fashion means to us. Combining the finest leather with an elegant design and expertise in craftsmanship has been the hallmark of our commitment, and is what sets us apart.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
When it comes to fashion, Los Angeles has always been a city open to new designers and to create new trends. For VALENTINA TERRA, the welcoming has been notoriously positive. People love our designs.

I would recommend someone who is starting out into fashion to explore the city, to breathe and feel the atmosphere and bring something new to offer, a concept where quality and sophisticated designs have an intimate connection reflected in pieces of art.
