Today we’d like to introduce you to Cameron Oliver.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Cameron. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Born and raised in Los Angeles. I have been in athletic sports since I can remember. My original dream was to play in the NFL and when I fell short of that in college I started boxing at the local boxing gym at the age of 21 and I wanted to make that a career and go professional. Then after about three years I switched gears and went into business. I got my real estate license and pursued a career in sales. After my first year, I knew that wasn’t my dream job. I still have my license and Will continue to keep that in my back pocket.
In the summer of 2017, I found myself lost. I didn’t know which direction to head in. The only thing I knew was sports and working out. So I went back to the gym and started lifting weights, running & boxing and posting these workout videos on my Instagram. One day a long-time friend of mine saw one of my videos boxing and he was working for this boxing gym in Santa Monica called Gloveworx. He told me I should come by one day to box and check them out. So I did. After leaving workout and leaving the gym I felt a feeling of this is where I need to be. I was way out of my comfort zone going to Santa Monica.
I was working in Watts which in south Los Angeles at my family’s Donut shop called M&T Donuts. Some of the best donuts you will ever have by the way 🙂 I’ve been working there my entire life. My grandparents opened there first shop in Compton. Now that’s an amazing story to tell…so after my workout at Gloveworx I messaged my friend and asked him if they were hiring for boxing coaches aka personal trainers and he said yes. I can do a three-month internship at the gym. So I started the internship in November of 2017. Finished my internship and was offered a full-time position with salary as a coach. It is now November 2019 and I am still with the company we now have three location. Santa Monica, Century City and New York. I can absolutely say I made my dream come true. I am so happy and blessed to be working with Gloveworx and becoming one of the top earners in the company. I made so many sacrifices for this job doing what I love to do.
I lost my mother in May of 2019 so suddenly then I lost my Auntie in September of 2019. My mother, father and brother are a huge part of my success in life. They are the reason I work so hard. Us losing the rock in our family being my mother was by far the hardest challenge we have ever faced. That is the reason why I go so hard in life. Now at 27 years old, I feel wise. I’ve made many mistakes but I’ve learned from those mistakes and I am a better man because of them. I hope to continue to inspire my family and the world. My next goal/dream is the give back to Compton and Watts. I plan to do some big things in the near future for them so be on the lookout. There is so much more to my life in detail but we can leave it there for now as I am still writing this book called “life”.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road.
Tried pursuing four different careers.
Lost my mother in May of this year.
Lost my auntie in September of this year.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel my genuine is most important in my success. I am interested in everyone I meet. My understanding of people and they go through I believe is another quality. And just my overall love and caring for others.
