Meet Caitlyn Fox

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlyn Fox.

Caitlyn Fox

Hi Caitlyn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started as most do, out of LA in a small town. Specifically Coburg Oregon, a town with a population of 1200. Performing arts was not cool to do growing up; in fact, there was no opportunities really besides our school theater and quire. I always had a knack for dancing, singing, and just being on a stage in general. I loved being in front of people at an early age and felt special knowing at six years old what I wanted to do, I wanted to be an actress. Most people at that age say they want to be an astronaut or a doctor. But eventually as they grow older, they realize that’s not the path they want to take. I never had that; I always just knew. I was 17 when a talent agency came into town looking for new faces, and I was so excited I begged my parents to go. We went on a Saturday morning to a hotel downtown, and I auditioned amongst a few other dozen kids. They absolutely loved me and asked why I was living in a ghost town where no one can see me. I laughed because if it were up to me, I would have chosen to live in a big city in a heartbeat. I ended the day by signing with them and signing up for some acting classes and headshot sessions.

A year later, I turned 18 and moved to Santa Barbara after high school. I would drive up to LA just to be a background and not even get paid. 2 hours there and 2 hours back, sometimes four if there was traffic. But I loved every second. Being on a film set, watching professionals work in an environment I had been dreaming of since I was six, I didn’t care if I had to drive 10 hours. Covid hit my first year out in California, so I moved back home to my parents for another year. I wasn’t missing much as all productions and auditions came to a halt for a while. I then said my goodbyes again and made my way to Huntington Beach, California. I do believe the years of a struggling actor are so important. This is where you grow as a person and in your craft before the world can have an opinion. My two years in Orange County I was driving back and forth to and from LA weekly, spending most of my time in the car and at gas stations. I was submitting for everything and anything. I booked a ton of short films which gave me the opportunity to get out of LA and travel to San Francisco. I also started booking a few independent feature films. I found my acting coach who is amazing Tom Draper. Taking two classes a week with him over in North Hollywood. Finally started meeting fellow actors and people with the same passions, I officially made it to LA! Fully moved in and can call LA home. I am currently filming for a new project, an independent feature film. I can’t wait for my new work to come out this year and get to share it with the world.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It is never a smooth road as an entrepreneur; there are lots of struggles and failures. I would say specifically with acting one of the biggest struggles are scams. There are a lot of people out there offering fake auditions, photoshoots, and work. I had to really watch for that after I had dealt with multiple scams. Another struggle is money of course. Not only is it expensive to live in LA and be able to pay for your bills. There are certain things you need before even starting. Headshots, acting classes, reel editors, self-tape coaching, the list goes on..none of that is cheap at all. I thought I could cheat the system and get an agent/manager or book big roles with none of that or cheap quality material, but the reality is you really do have to invest. It is investing in yourself, but I really had to learn the hard way.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an Actress/entertainer.

I say film actor as I have only ever been in films but am not opposed to TV. I think the actress says enough, but I would also on the same realm say, entertainer. I love the fact that I can make people feel emotions. Whether that’s happy, sad, laughter, I truly love that, that it is a part of my job. It isn’t easy either because if they don’t feel anything, then they don’t believe you. It is a special craft that takes years to really really master. Editing is one thing but acting takes a lot of work physically and emotionally.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My family.

I feel really lucky because my family and I are very close. We don’t talk every day or tell each other every little detail about our lives, but these are the people who love me for me. They know me better than anyone else in the entire world and they’re my biggest supporters. Family is family and of course, we have our ups and downs but there’s nothing else that makes me happier than going home to Oregon and seeing them.
