Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlin Labistour.
Hi Caitlin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in Durban, South Africa specifically a suburb called Wentworth. I always knew that I wanted to come back to the U.S after our family vacation that was courtesy of my grandfather in 2014 where we visited Disney World in Orlando, Florida. That sealed the deal for me and I knew that somehow I needed to come back ! In 2015 I remember telling my cousin that “I’m going to live in California“. In 2017 and years prior I heard about a cultural exchange program which I was very interested in. I then started applying for the program in 2017 and was accepted in November of that year. I was working at Planet Fitness in Pretoria at the time but I had to leave because in February 2018 my dream would be coming true. I didn’t exactly come straight to California but my American adventure had just begun. This was all made possible by my single mom who has always been my biggest supporter no matter how big I dream.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has been far from smooth but it’s definitely been worth it. 10 months into my program I decided that I was going to rematch/extend with another family who just so happened to be based in Orange County, California. That is where the California dream began.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am currently a caregiver but my end goal is to be in the medical field. I genuinely enjoy taking care of people because I try to be the change in the world that I would like to see. I’m known for my all rounded content which I post consistently on a daily basis but most importantly I’m known for inspiring girls from back home to show them that you can do anything that you put your mind to and God opens doors that no man can close.

Don’t let the numbers demotivate you ! There’s always someone watching and being inspired. We all have a story to tell that could spark something in someone that you may or may not know. So , just keep going and doing what you do because your dreams are closer than you think.
