Meet Judi Weisbart of A Busy Woman Consulting in Santa Barbara

Today we’d like to introduce you to Judi Weisbart.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I began my company 15 years ago after working as an Exec Director, Program Director and Development Director for many nonprofits in Santa Barbara. I decided to create a consulting business to help many nonprofits to raise more thru mission-driven events and help boards to work on strategic planning for the growth of the organization. I realized this was a needed addition to the marketplace and would help smaller organizations build their donor base and support their development departments. I have a number of clients including Santa Barbara Food Bank, New Beginnings Counseling Center, World Business Academy, Montecito Firefighters Charitable Foundation to name a few. I also help community thru large scale projects from Anne Frank in the World which is an international exhibit that we brought to Santa Barbara and put 10,000 school-aged kids thru to teach what hate and xenophobia can do in a society to heading my newest project Santa Barbara Co. Mask Network which is a group of people who sew masks to those who distribute them to protect on front line workers and volunteer, vulnerable populations and others from Covid 19. We are making great strides to covering the faces of our community. I have also spoken at rally, event and community gatherings to inspire others to use their voices for change. I was one of the speakers at the 2018 Women’s March in Santa Barbara. In recognition for my work I have received a number of awards for my work over the years,

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Never a smooth road! I don’t believe that is life; we all have journeys on back roads with large bumps and dips and them on highways that speed along easily. I have experienced all the roadways. The biggest struggle is the funds to keep programs going, it is hard in a small town with the most nonprofits to constantly look for new ways to raise the funds needed. I have worked to build relationship and have a good track record but it is not easy!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the A Busy Woman Consulting story. Tell us more about the business.
I am most proud of the people I work with. I chose to create a business that serves those who serve! These are nonprofits that make a community better for all and therefore are filled with inspiring and conscious people who want to do good. As for the creative part, I love to produce parties, events, and community movements. These projects are fun, creative, interactive and meaningful ways to be interface with donors and community. However, I also produce private events when asked, usually by a donor who has seen my nonprofit events. I have done weddings, theme parties and productions like The Sinking of the Titanic for an 80th birthday celebration. Being creative is my lifeblood. I am also an artist, my passion is sculpture. I create works out of stone, bronze, clay and found objects, these are my soul’s way of speaking. This talent and skill helps me in my business to see things as an artist not just a business.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck is one of those intangibles that we all have but don’t know why it comes to us. Luck for me has been thru the people I have met and those who support my dreams. As my mother used to tell me “it’s not what you know but who you know in life that matters” That is so true, as the people in my world make my life very lucky. I find supporters, mentors, donors, collaborators and then I feel lucky because thru them, my life is often easier and lady luck show up pretty constantly!
