Meet Burbank Makeup & Hairstylist: Haley Fite

Today we’d like to introduce you to Haley Fite.  LA is fortunate to have artists like Haley – the child prodigies who grow up, eschew the safe corporate route and instead follow their artistic passions.  Below you’ll find our interview with Haley.

Haley, please share your story with us.  How did you get to where you are today?

I began my interest in makeup at a young age because of my mother’s hair styling career. My mother owned her own hair salon at the age of 25 and I’ve always been inspired by that. Growing up, I was never interested in going to college and doing the “normal” thing that all of my friends in the Midwest were persuaded to do. When it came time to graduate high school and make a decision to go with what my mom inspired me to do or to go to college like the rest of my friends, I decided to go to a makeup academy in Hollywood. In the midst of my studies there, I got booked as a personal makeup artist to Liana Liberato on a feature film. From there, my career snowballed and I feel so fortunate to have found an art that I truly love and that makes me aspire to grow and learn every day.

Has it been a smooth road?

It’s been a very bumpy road! As a makeup artist in Los Angeles, you’re competing with thousands of others in the same field. The work is spotty and inconsistent and that can, at times, has made me feel very discouraged. From a positive perspective, the competitive nature of this field in Los Angeles has kept me working hard and feeling accomplished because of my ambitious and driven personality. Some of the main milestones include working on my first feature film, getting booked to do Paris Hilton’s makeup at her house, meeting Paula Abdul and having her look up at my as I do her makeup and say, “Honey, you are doing such a great job!”

What are your plans for the future?

My plans for the future are to continue to assist all of my clientele in feeling confident and beautiful. I am looking forward to continuing business alongside my wonderful mother. It is such a gift that we can work with each other as a hair and makeup team. She has never gone a minute without being an inspiration to me and I love to be able to create beauty by her side.
