Meet Bryan Tashjian of Western Tire Co of Burbank

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryan Tashjian.

Bryan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We are a family run business. We have been in the Burbank/Glendale area for over 50 years.

My brothers and I worked for our father until we were able to open our own shop in 1975. Our father sold his stores and retired for short time, and then came to work for his sons. Which was total awesome.

We have been a staple of Burbank and have been voted the best tire store in Burbank 22 years in a row. We have the distinction of being voted# one every year that there has Been a vote. We are very proud of that. We have a passion for what we do. Our knowledge and one on one customer service keep us in good stands with our clientele.

Our work is never easy but it is a pleasure to come to work. We are truly blessed to be located in such a great community. Forty-three years in the same location. Very proud of that.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We truly had a great teacher. Our father as a child work 3 jobs thru the Great Depression. He had an incredible work Ethic.

We learned at an early age nothing comes without hard work. Our customers seem to appreciate the fact that we still are hands on almost every job that come in. Passion for what you do has merit. The family business is a dying commodity.

I don’t believe we could have been this successful if we had to start a business today’. So many obstacles just to get started. But passion and drive will always get you to where you want you go.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Western Tire Co of Burbank. story. Tell us more about the business.
We are Tire and wheel specialist. Our years of experience is over hundred years combined. I think what makes us the proudest, customers we just hand us their keys and trust us for the correct service for their car. Most people feel their family home and vehicles out there most important possessions. We feel the same way. Safety first. So many of our customers will call us for advice for services we do not do.

Because they trust our suggestions. That’s a great feeling. That is the personal touch a family run business can give back to its customers.

One on one attention. It’s a great feeling.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
When I was twenty years old, I was attending college. I had the opportunity to buy the store we are in now. That was 1975. My brother Greg and I had 10,000.00 combined. We needed another 10,000.00.

I went to our small community bank, were we did our banking. I walked up to the Vice President of the bank. Mr. Manny Mattas. I told him of our opportunity to open this business. But we were 10,000.00 short. After about half an hour of me explaining our plan, he turned to his secretary and said write this man a check for 10,000.00. We cannot do that today. So luck maybe. But a hand shake and promise go a long way. Running a business is never easy. It’s like wheening a baby that never grows up. Hands on if you except your business to be a success. But I have great help at our count and in our service areas. But I’m still a control freak.
