Today we’d like to introduce you to Bruce Eisenberg.
Hi Bruce, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
A full-service still + motion production company. Founded by Bruce Eisenberg and Tova Bonem, whose work and brand collaborations have been featured worldwide.
We are photographers and cinematographers who produce and direct content from development to post-production.
Our artistic vision for storytelling in motion and still is inspired by our earlier journey as executives in the music and luxury magazine publishing industries.
Our New York City roots brought us to LA’s fashionable Arts District, where art, culture, and diversity live, thrive, and inspire!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We both came to the creative world through other businesses we were in. Tova came out of the magazine world, and Bruce came from the music business. We both worked with creative people but were not part of the creative teams, the creative work was in the background developing our photographic and motion skills while we were involved in the business world. As we gradually left our day jobs behind, we started building up a client list in still photography, and then, as clients were asking photographers to also do motion work some years ago, we started to move into that area. Most photographers started quasi-directing as the learning curve, and the cost of actually doing the lighting and camera work in motion was VERY steep and expensive, so it made it much more of a challenge to develop a motion reel. In the last several years, that cost has come down, and we have been pushing hard to develop ourselves in the areas of producing, camera operation, and post-production so that we could service commercial clients in all areas of their creative campaigns. Struggles are always present as you try to grow, but in 2023, we made progress doing music videos, corporate work, and fashion motion work, which has been very exciting.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our work today is in both the actual content development and post-production of still photography and motion work. We can take a project from inception, whether it is a cosmetics, liquor, or fashion campaign, from inception to post-production. Most photographers coming out of the still photography world are not motion camera operators; they do what I call Quasi Directing. They are not true motion directors for the most part as they do not come out of the film world, they hire film crews and “direct” the action. We took a different route; I have been training for the last three years on motion cameras and becoming a camera operator, as well as working in post-production so that we both understand all aspects of the motion world that we are working in. It’s a steep learning curve and most photographers that I know have not chosen that path, so I think it significantly sets us apart from others in our fields, both still and motion, we can bridge and function in both areas.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I am a member of Filmmakers Academy which helps people train in all areas of the film world, it was started by noted Director of Photography Shane Hurbolt and I love being part of that community. Tova and I are both avid wellness people, so we read a lot of articles and books on mental and physical health. We are both Tony Robbins fans and have read most of his books and podcasts. We both love the Midas Touch Network Podcasts these days for politics. We are also fans of author and journalist Douglas Murray and have been reading his books and watching his interviews on YouTube.
Tova is a big Instagram user, I on the other hand do not love to spend time on Social Media. I do look at LinkedIn, but not nearly as much as I used to, and I use Instagram only for business.
