Meet Bronze Avery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bronze Avery.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Bronze. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My life feels like one big run on sentence, so that’s how I’ll describe it!

I grew up singing pop music, turned into a theatre kid in high school, found my focus back in pop music in college, put out some music, loved it, then started feeling uninspired, got management, changed my name, embraced my sexuality in music, started making better music because of it, moved to LA, started performing a good amount, made some music videos, started talking more about what I believe in and now I’m ruling the world! Just kidding about that last part, but I’m sure that’s in the story somewhere haha.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In some ways yes, in other ways no.

I think the most impactful struggle was growing up in a single-family home because our income was pretty low, which completely limited my access to make music. However, I think it taught me how to get super scrappy with my resources and figure out creative ways to get what I need.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m a pop songwriter, recording artist and producer! I’m known for my perspective on LGBTQ musicians, queer sexual representation in the mainstream media, and for making bops. I think what sets me apart is my unique balancing act with stereotypes; sometimes I embrace them, own them, and reclaim them. Other times I fight them all together, which I think keeps people (and me!) on their toes.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I always think about singing at the playground with my friends. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was developing skills I would cherish forever.
