Meet Brittney Mendoza of Encoreevents90210 in Glendale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Mendoza.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in Los Angeles CA. I am half Hispanic and half African American so I’ve been very fortunate to grow up in a diverse family where I fell in love with both of my cultures. I come from a strong nitch family where my mother and father always instilled strength and perseverance. My mother and father grew up in the streets of South Central Los Angeles CA. In South Central you see adversity and I was always determined to be more than what I saw. I’ve always hungered for wanting to be more and having more. At the age of ten, I started to make my grandmother go to Michaels to buy items to make my reefs for the door and in high school I was always known for organizing various events and loved to take on the role of orchestrating events. I attended Arizona State University as an undergraduate pre-nursing major at 17 years old.

I transferred back home to Los Angeles, where I attended West Coast University and received my Bachelors of Science Nursing BSN where I obtained my RN to be a registered Nurse at 23. My journey was not easy, many sleepless nights went into obtaining my goal. I always had a passion to help and see greater good in people. After nursing school, I started Encoreevents by doing my friends birthdays because I was tired of seeing/attending boring birthday dinners. I wanted to see more people produce over the top events than just the upper class. With both skills I’ve learned from my father entrepreneurial skills and putting items together to make it appear more expensive than its cost from my mother I gained the eye in decor and visuals. I had no idea my company would launch and I would dive head first into owning a company at 23 years old. I’ve experienced downfalls, triumphs, accomplished milestones and reached I let my eyes and thoughts take my imaginations where I create the unthinkable. My company now employs over ten people in which we produce events from baby showers, pops up shops, birthdays, weddings.

Has it been a smooth road?
No, this journey has not been a smooth road. It’s been hard. I’ve sacrificed a lot to be where I am today. I’ve gone through many obstacles as it’s not easy owning your own business especially when you have employees who are older than you looking into you for the right answer, how to deal with issues, and ultimately correcting those issues while at the same time your growing yourself. I’m human and yes I make mistakes and yes I go through growing pains so all while going through these motions I still have to withhold a smile on my face and keep pushing because time waits on no one and I have a team behind me counting on me. In 2017, I had twins and while some people doubted how would I make it through as a single mom to premature twins I rised above it all and kept working while I was in the hospital I was planning events and even when I was pregnant I planned an event for my client MakeupShayla for her launch with Maybelline Cosmetics. During that process I had to fire both of my assistants. With the support of god, my family, and dear friends, I pushed through and did the event alone with day staff onboard day of event.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Encoreevents90210 – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Encorevents90210 creates events across a broad spectrum such as weddings, birthdays, pop up shops, launch, parties, holiday decor, contracting/ designing homes/stores and more. Our company is known for its elaborate ambiance. I am most proud of our designs and how far we have came since we started. What sets us apart from other companies is that I like to create an experience they will never forget and not just an event where the decor is nice but the food and music were not within a certain standard.

This is truly a passion of mine so I’m always putting my self in the shoes of my clients as if it were my party/event and I get excited within the process when I get a spark of an idea that will change the dynamic’s of making the event complete. It truly bothers me when a client is unhappy about something since I spend time putting a lot of efforts into our events. The best gratification is when you see your clients happy and enjoying themselves with the people that they love the most and or sharing experiences with other people. I am not your typical boss I like to have a good time. It doesn’t feel like work when you’re having a good time right. Without challenges, I would not strive to keep pushing to make my business better. Just this year I had to do some soul searching within myself to figure out how to revamp my company because I was not happy with how things were being ran.

As a CEO, it is important for you to get out in the field and see for yourself. I scaled back on some events in this process after many years and had to look at it as a life learning lesson. So good luck and bad luck has played key factors in making my business better. You have two choices in life to get better or stay stagnant I choose to keep elevating and perfecting my craft and I hope that others can get inspired through my story on not giving up no matter what obstacles you face.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that you can make connections with people through your work and meet people that admire your work. What I don’t like is how people are so quick to judge within our city without getting to know someone and their story. If we took more time out to understand than we would have more respect for peoples craft and skills/talents.
