Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Wolf.
Brittany, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Ever since I can remember, I always wanted to be an actress. However, growing up in a small town outside of Youngstown, Ohio, acting never seemed achievable. After college, I moved down to Atlanta, Georgia working as a camera p.a. on sets such as The Walking Dead, Hault and Catch Fire, Atlanta and more. As I was looking for jobs, I came across a casting call for background work in the movie Neighbors 2. Because my heart was always with acting, I decided to respond to the audition, and within minutes, I had a call sheet sent to me. What was supposed to be a two-day shoot with 150 plus other extras, turned into four months of work, and a featured role. I received a call one night from the casting director stating he loved my energy and drive to be on set, and wanted to keep me on the rest of shoot. At that moment, I knew pursuing an acting career was my calling. Six months later, I packed a bag and flew out to Los Angeles with my parents to further my opportunities as an actress. I walked around for days in West Hollywood, dropping off my resume to every bar and restaurant we saw.
After many rejections, I walked into the last restaurant of the day and I was hired on the spot. I was scared, to say the least. I canceled my flight home with my parents, ordered a rental car and stayed at an Airbnb for a few nights. I found myself homeless for two months, bouncing from couch to couch and living out of one suitcase. I even slept in my car one night. No matter how stressful it was, I knew it would all be worth it in the end. I joined an acting class, ordered headshots, and after a few months, started to apply to free acting work. Fast forward, I now have an agent and manager, I am fortunate enough to take on paid acting jobs only, and I recently received a nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Pursuing my dream has been anything but smooth. Moving to LA, being homeless for two months, and living out of a single suitcase were not at all what I expected. Luckily, I found an apartment that I could call home. Being a “starving artist” is not just a saying. I’ve had to live off 99 cent mac and cheese boxes for days because I couldn’t afford groceries. As an actress, you experience rejection almost daily, and most of the time you will never know why. Sometimes, you are given critiques that are impossible to improve on. I was told by one casting director that I was “the best actress that walked in the room,” however, I was “just too short” for the role. But all of these struggles and bumps in the road only give you more life experience to use towards your acting. Not every day is easy, but you must find the positive in each situation.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am known for films such as ‘Nowhere to Run,’ ‘Hear Me,’ ‘People Magazine Investigates’ and more. I am most proud of my nomination for “Best Supporting Actress” in ‘Hear Me,’ and my lead role in ‘Nowhere to Run.’ My current pursuits involve expanding my network of casting directors, and seeking more time-intensive roles. The most fulfilling aspect of acting is bringing a dramatic character to life.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
The people that have influenced my success the most are my parents. From flying me out to Los Angeles, to supporting me financially, and being my biggest fans along the way- I am forever grateful, and I would not be where I am today without everything they have done. I would also like to thank my first acting coach, Joe Salazar. Joe helped me create a solid foundation and platform for my career; a far leap from the inexperience I started with. Lastly, thank you to all the directors/casting directors who trusted in my ability to bring the characters and stories to life.
