Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Victoria.
Brittany, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always been fascinated with the power of Public Relations. The ability to protect & elevate a brand’s reputation while building powerful relationships speaks to the constant ambition in me. I attended a HBCU in Houston, TX & studied Broadcast Journalism with an emphasis in PR. When I tell you this probably was the best time in my young adult life… I’m not exaggerating. I loved going to college, unlike that wretched place I called my high school. Upon college graduation, I worked in PR & Marketing for corporate America for ten long years. Even though I loved working in PR with oil & gas companies, there was something missing. I needed Art & Culture. I had always been a fan of the overall creativity of fashion & style because to me, it is one of the purest expressions of art that we live daily. How style is constantly changing & evolving, fashion will always be here (unless we decide to all go naked one day).
So I decided to take the two things that I enjoyed the most & combine them. They say, if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life. So, I quit my corporate job & moved to LA. Scared out of my mind, but determined. I started networking & dove into my natural talent of styling while working on my plan to open up my Fashion PR Showroom. One day I remember having a moment, doubting myself & wondering if moving to LA was the right thing to do. LA will chew you up & spit you out if you’re not careful. A glass of wine later, I threw the world’s smallest violin playing for me out the window & signed the lease for my showroom space. I didn’t even have designers yet, but I gave myself a goal & I didn’t stop until I reached it.
Has it been a smooth road?
Some of the struggles along the road was just being in LA, almost like a culture shock. Getting to know where I’m going, meeting new people & working for pennies while styling was definitely a struggle. Even finding parking in LA is a struggle some days for me. And the traffic! Don’t get me started on that, but for the most part, I knew it was going to be hard. Finding designers that are ready & have the budget for PR is difficult. Also, there are some amazing PR Showrooms that have been in this city for many years, so starting off as a brand new showroom & building my reputation was hard.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Her Group story. Tell us more about the business.
My business is a Fashion PR Showroom. I wear many hats. To sum it up, I assist fashion designers with gaining visibility for their brands by securing celebrity & media placements. I also help develop Marketing plans, manage Social Media, facilitate Photo-Shoots, & more. I’m most proud of all of the strong relationships that I’ve built with the creatives of LA. Especially the rapport that I have with the stylists & celebrities that I work with. They have their choice to go to any of the showrooms in LA that they want to, but they still always make it into The Her Group.
Where do you see your industry going over the next 5-10 years? Any big shifts, changes, trends, etc?
Within the next 5-10 years, I plan on adding an Atlanta, GA & Miami, FL location, while continuing to build an abundance of powerful relationships within the fashion & entertainment industry.
