Meet Brittany Inge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Inge.

Brittany, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I consider myself a multi-hyphenate but I was first introduced to the world of arts and entertainment through music. I have been singing all of my life. I attended Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, DC where my concentration was Vocal Music. Then, I attended Spelman College in Atlanta, GA and received my degree in Music. Only after college did I begin to study the craft of acting, in part because I needed my acting chops to match my vocal ability in order to make it through musical theater auditions… but eventually, I caught the acting bug full throttle. I began by performing in community theater productions around Atlanta before transitioning to professional/regional theater houses and then, I began auditioning and eventually working in TV/Film projects that filmed in Atlanta. The Atlanta market was my first home and a great starting point. I transitioned from Atlanta to New York City last year before I booked the role of Crystal Garrett in “Boomerang” on BET. My ultimate goal is to remain an artist who can move comfortably between screen and stage throughout my career

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Easy? Ha! Not at all. My first year with my first agent, I booked absolutely nothing. I got plenty of auditions and callbacks but never booked. That was discouraging, and I was fearful that my agency would drop me.

My second year with that agent, I booked one non-union commercial. I booked it early in the year, so I had a lot of hope for how the rest of my year and bookings would go… and still, nothing. In my third year with the agency, work and bookings began to pick up in a major way. I was working abundantly in TV and theater– so much so that I was able to quit my day job/desk job at Tyler Perry Studios after saving up a solid amount of money. I was excited and grateful, but eventually, even once I was living my dream of being a full time actor, I felt myself getting burned out. I had to step back, reevaluate and learn balance.

The journey and learning continues! I am so excited to be a part of the “Boomerang” cast and grateful to have had a successful first season. Prior to working on “Boomerang”, I had a dry spell within my career journey. There were moments when I wondered if work would ever pick back up for me, but little did I know that those slower months were giving me time to breathe and preparing me for the season I was about to step into.

This is why, no matter how challenging the path or journey seems, I have learned to trust God’s timing for my life.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am an actor, writer, singer, and aspiring director. I am passionate about creating and being a part of stories that make an impact in the world and inspire audiences to think, laugh, cry or take action.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Perseverance. Hands down. My inability/unwillingness to quit is the main quality that has brought me this far. I work hard. I have a deep love for the craft of acting. I know that I am called and purposed to be a storyteller. Giving up has never been an option for me– even when times have been rough and the seasons have been dark; I have persevered. I have no doubt that this quality is what has gotten me to this point.
