Meet Bridie Hatch of The Mommy & Me Academy in Santa Clarita Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bridie Hatch.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I had my son in November and I went through a Mommy & Me program in Orange County that was life changing. I learned so much, I feel like I received a degree in baby. The best part I was going through motherhood with thirteen other women who were going through the exact same thing at the exact same time. I would have suffered from major depression if I didn’t have the community and support of that program. I would call my girlfriend from back home and tell her all about it. She was so impressed and said we need to have a program like this in Santa Clarita. I told her okay, lets create it!

I had a five-month-old at home when I started The Mommy & Me Academy. He was not sleeping more than twenty minute naps and was up every hour at night. I was exhausted, but I was determined to create this program allowing all moms to have the same experience I had. I worked every twenty minute nap on getting the website created, finding local experts to partner with us, and finding new moms to come to the series.

I would call my partner Jenny and have her review everything and help with get connected with the experts.

While doing this I had a realization, creating this business was my “self-care” I had been hearing about, I didn’t know what that term meant. People were telling me self-care is important for the maternal mental health. I was under the impression I needed to get more pedicures. While building the business I realized doing something for me and using a different part of my brain was my self-care. I now bring this lesson to the classroom.

Today we have our first series underway. We have eleven women registered for our Newborn Series, the series is organized by the baby’s birth month so our moms will build a community that will help them share in the challenges and joys of motherhood.

Moms will be able to hear the words “Me too” during these challenging first months. The focus of the classes is to bond with baby while learning about baby’s development. Local experts will come teach moms important information they need during their journey into motherhood.

Each class in the ten-week series focuses on a different topic relevant to both mommy and baby.

Our experts will provide mommies with research-based information on postpartum health, infant bonding, transitioning into motherhood, healthy sleep habits, tummy time and infant development, and infant massage and soothing.

We have two other classes that will start shortly!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Getting people to enroll has been a challenge. We are a new way of thinking, having the support of this community is a lot different then what other generations have had.

Getting new moms to know that they need this kind of support is taking some time to get people talking about how much they need it!

Please tell us about The Mommy & Me Academy.
We are The Mommy & Me Academy, we specialize in new moms who want community, want to be able to learn from experts about their new baby, and to get the support they need during this difficult transition into motherhood.

We have two series, both are 10 week session that are designed for when the babies are 0-3 months old and 3-6 months.

The Mommy and Me Academy is a judgment free zone and we welcome mothers with diverse parenting styles. We believe that as long as baby is safe and loved, parents need to parent in a way that works best for their family.

I proud to give moms the much needed community they need during this difficult time. Having support during the transition into motherhood you are less likely to suffer from postpartum depression.

We are a different mommy and me program because we support both mom and baby.

We are not just focused on baby, mom is just as important.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I don’t think I would have started a company when I had a 5-month-old son who wasn’t sleeping at the time. But there have been little bumps in the road with communication issues I would iron those out too.

  • We have a current special running for $100 for the 10 week series.
