Meet Brick Jackson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brick Jackson.

Brick, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I really got into acting in middle school. I took a drama class and we started doing improv and I just took to it. But I really dove in about six years ago while living in North Carolina. I started auditioning and doing student films and then things grew from there.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not at all. There is nothing smooth about this business. The industry changes rather often. What’s in today is out tomorrow. You are gonna have times when you are booking one after another and then you might go for two years without booking. I hit a stride within my first year of acting, then I went almost a year and a half without booking a single role. I’d get close and then get a call that they “went in another direction”. It was tough to feel like I can’t do what I love, the way I wanted to.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am an actor that focuses mostly on comedy. I love the art of comedic acting. I am currently a performer, writer, and producer with the sketch group, Blackverse. We perform at Pack Theater in Hollywood every second Thursday. It’s been a great experience being relatively new to LA to get to work with some great, up-and-coming talent.

Outside of stage work, I’ve appeared in several movies and TV shows, like, Spongebob Squarepants: Sponge Out of Water, Complications (USA Network), Misfits and Monsters (TruTV), Goosebumps 2, Back to the Goode Life (BET), Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell (Adult Swim) and On Becoming a God in Central Florida (Showtime).

I am proudest of my latest role on American Soul for BET which airs next year. I got to work with some people I grew up watching and it was the best experience I have had thus far. I can’t wait for everyone to see it.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is waking up every day doing what I love. Acting is hard work, in addition to your talent. That would be the payoff for the sweat equity and the sacrifice. But it’s also one of the hardest goals to accomplish. But one way or another hard work pays off. It’s all worth it in the end. I truly believe that.
