Meet Brian Griffin in Silver Lake and West LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Griffin.

Brian, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always played drums and percussion as long as I can remember. After finishing music school in NYC, I lived in Brooklyn for 16 years and studied, toured and recorded with many different styles of artists. I moved here to Los Angeles in 2015 and have been enjoying growing my business here. In addition to touring and recording, I also record drum and percussion tracks from my studio for clients on both coasts.

Has it been a smooth road?
There are plenty of ups and downs in the music business, but dips in business can be channeled to a new “reaching out” to a broader music community. There is always an opportunity to learn something new, meet new people and develop the skills you have as a musician.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Brian Griffin story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m a freelance touring and recording percussionist and drummer. I typically play with rock and pop artists which include rehearsals, touring and session work. Along the way, I have studied many styles of music including jazz at the Manhattan School of Music and Brazilian percussion with various teachers in Rio de Janeiro. My greatest strength is supporting great singers as an accompanist. I have performed with Patti Smith, David Gray, Jakob Dylan, Lana Del Rey, Rumer, Iggy Pop and Brandi Carlile among many others.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The biggest shift in the industry was at least 10 years ago as CD sales gave way to online music and the studio industry moved toward home recording. It’s anybody’s guess exactly what will come next, but is extremely versatile and adaptable will always help musicians out.
