Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Goddard.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was introduced to audio engineering at a young age through my brother and his recording studios, Mas Productions, and Studio 420. My connection with recording and mixing is the ability to collaborate with artists. That creative synergy is essential to producing amazing music. On the East coast, I interned at recording studios and media production companies while pursuing my audio and post-production certifications in New York City. My education also included attending the Clive Davis Institute at New York University and the Berklee College of Music. After establishing my career on the East coast, I decided it was time for new challenges and opportunities on the West coast. My recording studio is currently located in DTLA where I record artists and mix projects of all genres.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Moving to Los Angeles 5 years ago with no family and no financial assistance made me work extra hard. I started working multiple part-time jobs in the daytime while also being an assistant at a studio in Burbank. I had 2 roommates to help keep the rent at a reasonable price. For the first 3 years of living in Los Angeles, I was unable to venture anywhere. I worked the part-time jobs in the daytime and had to go to the studio in Burbank right after where I worked until the sun came up, and did it all again the next day. I made the decision a couple of years ago to no longer be an assistant along with scaling back on my part-time jobs to focus on building my own business. All my time and money has gone into building my business and getting my name out there. Being an engineer takes a lot of sacrifice and patience for everything to come together. It has been a couple of years now, and I’m just starting to see all my experiences and hard work pay off.
