Today we’d like to introduce you to Brett Collins.
Hi Brett, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
When the pandemic hit, I had nothing to do. I found myself on social media for most of the day. I have always been obsessed with film, fashion, and pop culture so I decided to rebrand my Instagram into an archive of nostalgic moments in pop culture. I had seen a bunch of other Instagrams doing something similar and I knew I was capable of curating great content that could spark joy in myself and others. From there my following grew!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Some struggles in creating a platform like mine include consistency and competition. You have to post daily to keep people’s interest and you also have to find content that hasn’t already been posted. It can be difficult sometimes, but I enjoy the challenge
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I essentially curate content from other artists to convey my own aesthetic and interests. I rarely create my own content because I now work full-time as a fashion designer for a separate company. I hope to someday create more of my own work (whether it be fashion or film) that’s inspired by all of the things I currently post about.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Things do not happen overnight. It can take a while for things to catch on, so you have to be patient. The thing is if you’ve gotten good feedback on any of your content you should not give up when things seem slow. Always keep pushing and eventually you’ll get more and more good feedback when people start to see you again and again.
