Andrew – tell us about what you are currently working on.

Currently I am opening up my own boxing program, PUNCH. Located in beautiful Brentwood California is the highest quality boxing class in the area. We are located on the third floor of our building and have an amazing view of palm trees and buildings that line up the sky. I share the space with an amazing woman by the name of Tiffany Moore, the owner of Moore Dancing Studios the creator of the first cardio dance studio in Los Angeles.

Wow – that’s awesome.  Why did you decided to start your own program?

At the age of 22, I had already become a force in the fitness industry helping grow four gyms and running multiple boxing programs. But not having total control as I was not an owner made me want to go into business for myself. I could see the quality of these gyms diminishing, clients were complaining about structure and the non-effectiveness of the workouts. The biggest complain I got was the quality of the trainers. Owners in the area had to keep up with demand and began to hire inexperienced unqualified trainers to teach. It became quantity over quality… I love boxing and care too much about my clients to give them a mediocre product. So, I left and began talking to multiple gyms, wrote multiple business plans, saved up as much as I could and then finally came across Tiffany and her Moore Dance Studio and it was a perfect match.

That’s super interesting.  Tell us about your vision or PUNCH.

I wanted to create the best class imaginable; I want to be the Apple of fitness where no stone is left unturned. Growing up I was also an art prodigy, I was take a under by some of L.A.’s biggest graffiti artist and became a master at lettering, that eventually led me to getting accepted to Art Center at 15, and eventually I taught myself to do graphic work. Music was also a big part of my life, at age 13 I became best friends with two brothers whose dad was a DJ for the radio show KDAY. We were like brothers and I was with them at all times. There dad would pay us to rode for him and that’s when I became introduced with the nightclub scene and DJing. I was in 21 and over clubs at only 13 years of age. I loved the environment and control the DJ had over the crowd, the way people’s moods would change from track to track. I wanted to take all this experience and create a class experience like no other… A class that not only is an amazing workout but a class that stimulates your senses. What we do is create an experience, through amazing art work, professionally mixed tracks (made just for us), and give you the highest quality energetic trainers in the area. I myself will be in every class so you know it will be of the highest level.

Your story and vision are really inspiring.  How did you do so much at such a young age?

My upbringing however was a rough one to say the least. I was adopted by my Grandmother and aunt when I was born. We dealt with extreme poverty and I took it upon myself to uplift us by any means possible. I would walk around Santa Monica alleys and the beach with my uncle and we would dig through trash for hours, I would help my neighbors with gardening, I would sell candy at school, I would even hold lemonade stands outside my house. I remember being this entrepreneur as far back at age 6 when I would buy 5 cent Frooties candies at my local liquor store and resell it to the kids at school for 10 cents. When I was 8 my grandmother passed away and that’s when I really had to grow up and become a man. My aunt was a wreck and would have to end up learning my life lessons through the television shows I watched. But that same year I took up boxing, I was always around the sport as my cousin was always training but he decided to take me to a boxing gym with him one day and I instantly fell in love and wanted to become a prize fighter and make some money. My dedication to training was unmatched but injuries to my knee and feet held me from ever making a career out of becoming a professional fighter. The sport kept away from becoming a criminal and doing whatever crazy things a person in my situation would do it gave me a purpose. I wasn’t going to let my passion for the sport go to waste, if I wasn’t going to be the greatest fighter in the world then I would become the greatest trainer in the world. So at a young age I rededicated myself to becoming a trainer and that’s how my career as a trainer began. It’s been a hard road with so much positivity ahead. I now use my history and story to uplift others in less than perfect situations. I speak at some schools where the student are “the districts toughest cases,” schools that look more like jails than anything. I also put on classes for nonprofit organizations and communities. My teaching takes on many forms and more than anything I want to give people the tools to uplift their own lives. I want to help guide youth in the right path.
