Meet Breanna Anderson of Makeup Artist Breezo in Northridge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Breanna Anderson.

Breanna, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always had a passion for painting and art as a child. I enjoyed painting pictures at school and I would always come home with paintings for my mother at home to show her how much I loved her. I realized I had a passion for art at the age of 9.

Almost every morning, I would watch my mother get ready for work. She always applied her makeup so beautifully. I was immediately intrigued. As I watched my mother pick up her brushes and dip them into eyeshadows and powders, I realized how much makeup was similar to painting and I wanted to try it for myself. Whenever my mother wasn’t home, I would sneak into her room begin to play in her makeup. One day my mother caught me with a full face of makeup on and I was so afraid I would be in big trouble because I used her expensive MAC Cosmetics makeup. At first, she scolded me and told me to stay out of her makeup. Then she saw my face and said, “Wow! You actually did a pretty good job!” From that day, I began to practice my craft.

When I was 16, my mother allowed me to wear only eyeliner and mascara. Of course I wanted to wear all the beautiful eyeshadows she had in her makeup kit so when my mother wasn’t home, I would put on a full face of makeup and go to school. I remember receiving compliments on my eyeshadow and sometimes, my friends would ask me to do their makeup from time to time for fun! I would practice applying makeup on my friends and my little sister all the time. Applying makeup became something I enjoyed very much and I wanted to pursue being an artist. Once I graduated high school in 2011, I decided to move to Los Angeles from Chino and take makeup to a whole new level.

I became a freelance makeup artist who goes by the name of “Makeup Artist Breezo” in 2012. The nickname Breezo was originated from my older brother, Brandon, who is my best friend and one of my biggest supporters. My brother, who is currently fighting a life sentence in prison as an innocent man for a crime he never committed, has given me the largest motivation to become a makeup artist one day as he saw my potential and always cheered me on. As I proudly cherish my nickname, Breezo, I promised my brother that I would continue to make him proud and follow my dreams to become a Makeup Artist.

In 2014, I attended Michael Vincent Academy Beauty Institute in Downtown Los Angeles. I learned how to apply makeup professionally which helped me develop my own technique. As I completed the makeup academy and received my certificate, I began to do makeup for photoshoots, fashion shows, weddings, parties, and much more. I fell in love with the thrill of doing something I was born to become; an artist! At that point, I knew that makeup artistry was nothing but God’s will and passion.
I have now been a Professional Certified Makeup Artist for 7 years.

Has it been a smooth road?
Becoming a makeup artist has been challenging and it is still very challenging. I struggled for years with working a Full-Time job as a Human Resources Generalist and juggling my passion of becoming an artist. Due to my work schedule, it was very difficult for me to be available to book appointments for clients. I missed so many opportunities due to working at my job so much. In the beginning of my makeup career, a lot of my family and those around me doubted me and I had little to no support. Nobody thought I could make a living off of doing makeup alone. I had people closest to me tell me to just go to college, continue working in HR and just forget about makeup. I felt discouraged and disconnected from my passion most times because I didn’t have anyone there cheering me on until I realized that God is rooting for me! As I continued my journey of becoming a makeup artist, I focused on my growth of being the best makeup artist that I COULD BE.

Being a makeup artist in Los Angeles County can be very competitive. There are so many talented makeup artists with huge followings on social media and client base. It can be very difficult to book clients when there are so many people that already have a key makeup artist that they go to. Sometimes I have my moments when I’m booked daily. Other times, I have my moments where I’m not booked at all for weeks. I have grown to understand that consistency is key, focus on my journey and to not be discouraged.

Another challenge I’ve come across is my particular style of applying makeup. I do not compare my work to others as I feel everyone has their own skill that fits them. My technique is unique. I have the ability of transforming your face in a way that doesn’t make you look like someone you’re not! Instead, I enhance the beauty that God initially created. I love a simple bold look. I love to achieve bridal and editorial looks. Majority of my clients tell me they do not like the heavy makeup look. I am capable of achieving any makeup look that you desire such as cut crease, bold bright colors, glitter and art, however, it is not my typical, everyday technique that I provide to my reoccurring clients. What I like to showcase on my social media pages to attract clientele is true beauty and confidence. I believe that’s what makes me stand out from most.

Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about your work?
I am a Los Angeles based, Certified Makeup Artist and I go by the name of Makeup Artist Breezo. I am a highly resourceful, flexible and innovative artist who loves to make other women feel beautiful and confident about themselves. My ultimate goal for each client is that they are in love with the way they look when the application is complete. I specialize in providing beauty services for weddings, fashion shows, photoshoots, magazines and many other special occasions.

I am a passionate artist that caters to my client’s needs and ensures they’re satisfied with their final look! I am most proud of how far I’ve come in this journey to be the makeup artist that I am as I have learned so much in order to be where I am today and I look forward to much more that I have to learn in order for me to get to where I’ve always dreamed of being. My professionalism and dependability are what I believe sets me apart from others. My clients always applaud me on how professional and understanding I am of them during their appointments. I have built amazing friendships and connections with my clients and it is honestly my favorite part of being an artist.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The next 5-10 years of my career, I plan to be a Full-Time and well- rounded makeup artist, traveling the world to do makeup for my clients. I aspire to be a global makeup artist. I want to have the opportunity to meet people from all different walks of life and go to various countries to share my technique with the world. I also plan on becoming a mentor to inspire other young women who would like to become makeup artists or start a business of their own. I want to be able to share my journey with as many people as possible and assist them on their journey in the best way that I can.

In there near future, I plan on releasing more projects and content that I’ve been working on that I believe will also take my artistry to the next level.
