Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandy Fox.
Brandy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up a very “outdoorsy” person but never particularly athletic. After graduating from college, I was unhappy with the “skinny fat” body I found myself in. I wanted the strong, athletic physique with curves made of muscle like I saw on female Olympic athletes. Naturally, I bought every fitness magazine I could get my hands on and followed what the fitness gurus were preaching to a T. After slashing my calories, wasting money on fat burning supplements, doing ridiculous amounts of cardio, lifting little pink dumbbells, and following workouts geared towards women, I found myself worse off than when I started. All I was left with was a distorted body image, and a terrible relationship with food. Weak, sick, and desperate for help, I started researching what science had to say about weight training and building muscle. Reading study after study, I woke up to the fact that these magazines only wanted to sell me cookie cutter training and meal plans. I was angry! The more I studied the clearer it became as to why people had such a difficult time changing their body composition. I started writing my own training programs and learned how to use food to fuel my physique goals. Everything changed after that, but the changes in my body were far less important that the changes in my confidence! I didn’t fear walking in to the gym filled with beautiful people in amazing shape, or having an untracked meal. The scale? I tossed it out with the magazines! The gym showed me where discipline and hard work could take me. I desperately wanted to free others from the confines of what society says a woman should look like. To look strong and fit is great, but it pales in comparison to feeling strong and well able. I became certified in personal training and fitness nutrition and began training clients in person and online in 2015. After working with many men and women of all ages and backgrounds, I am truly humbled and thankful to have found my purpose.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Most of my struggles have actually been more trial and error. When I first started my business, I tried to be all things to all people, all of the time. I quickly learned that’s a great way to get taken advantage of. I didn’t have set deadlines for clients because I understand that people are busy and sometimes “life happens”. Bottom line, I was just too accommodating. I realized that people need structure. Along with a plan, they need to learn good habits which require discipline. This is the only way to make true long term changes, not just in your physique, but in anything you want to be successful at.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Foxfire Fit – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
