Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandi Moore.
Hi Brandi, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I moved to San Francisco from Honolulu, HI in 2007 to attend the Academy of Art University. My major was Fashion Design however, my focus was Accessory Design. I designed handbags in Marin for a local Handbag company there. Within the first six months of working with the company one of my designs was chosen to be featured in LUCKY Magazine in October of 2009 named Brandi Moore. It was a geometric clutch in purple, mustard, and grey on black.
Within the next year or so I switched paths and started taking classes at CCSF in Fashion Merchandising. Mostly because I missed being around people more often in a social environment. I fell in love with Fashion Show production and worked off and on for PR firms throughout the city some times working for free. My full-time job was waitressing all the while to pay my rent and other bills. During that time, I met my current spouse, Phillip. We have a 7-year-old son River now who is my “sun” and changed my life forever. When Phillip and I met, we realized we knew a lot of the same people. We met while I was producing a charity event fashion show in San Francisco for the 49ers.
Within a few years after having River, an opening for a position at a company Phillip managed opened up. The position was to run an artist agency in San Francisco. I took the position as agency booker and soon moved to the position of Agency Director within the first year. While I was there, I opened my own Photography agency in April 2019 called Brandi Moore. I worked for the artists’ agency for four years before it closed in September of 2020.
In a lot of ways although it was hard to know I was losing my job like many others during COVID it was a blessing to be given the opportunity to fully run my own. It came with a lot of trusting in the unknown. That year I created a picture of myself now hanging in our home of my hands over my eyes. There were a lot of tears that year not knowing if I was supposed to stay in the industry. That picture reminds me of that every day when I see it. Every day has its “opportunities”, not challenges, in running your own business. We are all our own businesses. We are representations of ourselves. People will remember us for the energy we project and I have to remind myself of that sometimes. This industry is very big but also very small and I would like to be the best part of myself for everyone I work with. I truly care about people.
Since opening my agency, I realize how many people have inspired me. There are so many people I have to give a lot of credit to for believing in me. In return I give a lot of my energy to sharing what I’ve learned with students at both colleges in SF I went to. I remind people daily during talks that I have that as long as you’re exercising your passion you’ll be where you’re supposed to be. Trusting is everything.
Along with producing and booking creatives my true passion is humanitarianism and philanthropy. I lost my sister to domestic violence almost nine years ago now. I’ve been able to look within our industry and find the spaces where we can help others outside of what we do. We’ve worked with large companies to donate clothing to shelters for women of domestic violence. We also practice sustainability daily. That is something there is a lot of need for in our industry and any little step we can take will make big differences later on.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No road is a smooth road. If it was, we wouldn’t grow. And if we decided to skip that path, we would always wonder where it would have lead. I am growing every day. I take every opportunity knowing if I didn’t, I wouldn’t be the inspiration I want to be for our son.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are a full-service agency offering both production services and booking creatives. The types of creatives we represent are: Photographers, Studios, Producers, Creative Directors/Art Directors, Set Designers, Wardrobe Stylists, Prop Stylists, Product Stylists, Hair and Makeup Artists.
We’re known for being the agency you want to work with again and again! I am most proud of the belief my creatives have in themselves and have in my agency. I’m so proud of what my agency has become and what it will continue to become. It will only continue to get better and be better. It feels amazing to be surrounded by so much positivity and to see the positivity we create in the work we do with everyone we come into contact with. I’m truly grateful.
What makes you happy?
Seeing people succeed. Being the one to give the dream job to the artist who has been dreaming of that job for so long and being able to gift that to them. It’s so fulfilling to feel the gratitude that they share with me and that we share together.
