Meet Cora Johnson of Boy in the Castle in DTLA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cora Johnson.

Cora, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born and raised near Columbus, Ohio… a Midwest girl at heart. I graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in textiles and clothing and worked in retail for a while as a visual manager. I’ve always loved helping people so I shifted gears completely and entered the medical world, but still something didn’t feel quite right…. in 2017, I packed up and moved to LA, not knowing what was next for me. My friend Jamee Ranta, gave me some PA work with her company Artifact Content and also introduced me to Colin Tilley at Boy In the Castle until I figured out what I was going to do next. Long story short, I never left… I went from PA to PC, PM, Producer to now Head of Production at Boy in the Castle, and I am loving it. I am very thankful to both Jamee and Colin for getting me involved in this crazy world of production.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There have definitely been struggles along the way. Truthfully, a very significant breakup is why I felt compelled to make the change and move to LA. And I’m really glad I did. I moved out here a little broken and lost, but I have transformed into a person I’m truly proud of. Moving across the country, away from family, and not actually having a job lined up or a real plan can be scary, but I have been so fortunate to have an incredibly supportive family, and an amazing support system from friends back home, and also friends out here, old and new! My goal since I moved out here three years ago has been to focus on consistency and truth and to just keep growing and learning!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Boy in the Castle in DTLA – what should we know?
Boy in the Castle is a full production company, but our specialty is music videos. We produce short films and commercials as well and are always expanding our adventures. I feel most people would want to talk about a specific piece of work they have created that has set them apart from others, and although we absolutely have work that has set us apart, I believe what truly sets us apart is how close we all are, and how well we work together. Colin has created a little family with Boy in the Castle, and you can see/feel that when you are on set with us, and you can see it in the work we do. BUT to take a chance to shamelessly plug some of our work… check out Taki Taki – Cardi B, Selena Gomez, Ozuna & DJ Snake, Circles and Goodbyes – Post Malone, J. Balvin’s Colores album, and most recently WAP – Cardi B & Meg Thee Stallion, and Holy – Justin Bieber. To name just a few…

If you had to start over, what would you have done differently?
I wouldn’t start over. I love where I am right now, and the path I took to get here. It wasn’t perfect, but it’s worked, and I will continue learning and growing. Could I sound any more basic with this response? LOL, But it’s true! I am super proud of where I came from, where I am currently, and looking forward to the future.
