Meet Blossom C. Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Blossom C. Brown.

Blossom, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My story began mostly as a child. I always knew something was different about me but wasn’t sure what. I always knew I had girl tendencies but growing up as the first born child in an all black household, I knew trying to express who I was would be impossible. Growing up in the 90s as a kid, it was just unheard of. I secretly played with dolls, wanted to always be around my mother and just never wanted to do activities that were deemed “masculine”. I kept my inner feelings to my self all throughout my teen years and it wasn’t until I was about 20 that I decided to stand in my truth and really become the authentic woman I was meant to be. Fast Forward to my freshman year of college. Up to that point, I was in and out of my transition, meaning for years I was secretly hiding it from my family. But one day while in school, I thought to myself that it was time to transition to the world full time with no regrets. Transition while in the education system is a completely crazy experience.

During this time, I was trying my best to get into nursing school all which were denied, not because of my grades but a lot of doing with my transition. Being in Mississippi a very conservative state where at the time the Gov of Miss, being the nephew of the woman who lied on Emmitt Till and had him murdered. The journey got even more crazy while in College as I started volunteering with the Human Rights Campaign, as I shared my story of injustice of not being able to get into nursing school, soon after a following came that I am still so grateful for because it came with my activism.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been far from a smooth road. Getting to where I am now involved a lot of trauma, disappointments, and most of all healing. Becoming an activist really changed my life and my perspective, and all of a sudden finding myself being a leader was truly unintentional. However, it opened up so many more conversations that need to be had about transgender individuals like myself. Just recently disrupting the CNN LGBTQ Townhall to make a passionate plea about a topic that was being completely ignored by most media truly opened up even more doors of conversations. Also having to heal the relationship with my family was truly a blessing. Every family has its ups and downs, but really mending my relationship with my family as my real true authentic self was truly a blessing. Also being a person of multiple purposes, being able to mend activism along with being able to act and produce is something that I have truly found enjoyable.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am currently an actress, producer, activist, motivational speaker and currently beginning the new hobby of becoming a writer as well. The brand and platform that I want to create is one that I truly want to empower and really make a difference. I usually brand what I do just under the name Blossom C. Brown and right now laying down the foundation of what I want to achieve. It is time for me to get my YouTube channel back up and running soon. I want to create content that will infuse some form of Activism in it. Whether it’s touching on a current event topic and being able to infuse that into a character in my imagination or create a speaking tour discussing it, I want to make sure that I find creative interactive ways of doing so. I feel like what I am doing sets me apart because it’s me being the true Libra that I am and balancing out all of the parts of my purpose. I really want to inspire and encourage people to be able to live out the best life they deserve to live out.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel like my integrity is a major characteristic. I always try to be as humble as I can and let my personality shine through. I always want people to know that I wouldn’t judge them, I would meet them completely where they are at. I didn’t mention this earlier but I am also in the Public Health field and being in that field you are taught to completely meet people where they are. Also, just having a bright personality is something I can honestly say has contributed to it. I love meeting people! I am truly an extrovert and I feel like interacting and connecting is something that has to be apart of my life and the great work I get to do.
