Meet Blake Stanton of Quiktract App. in Greater Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Blake Stanton.

Blake, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a 27-year-old African American male, born and raised in Southern California where I grew up playing basketball and football. Growing up in the city it is common to gravitate towards three things: music, sports or the streets. Luckily for me, my infatuation with sports came at an early age. I looked up to many athletes and aspired to be like them one day. Sports not only played a large role in my life but also the community. From Crespi, I had the privilege of attending the University of Oregon where I played four years of Collegiate Football and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Crime, Law, and Society as the first in my immediate family to graduate from college. When the dream of being in the NFL subsided, my passion for sports did not. Through a relationship I built at the University of Oregon I received a post-graduation internship in a Sports Agency. Being a young, black athlete I found it easy to relate and build trust with other athletes. Of course, being on the representation side is much different than being on the athlete side, but I found it extremely fun and rewarding!

Almost eight years to the date after my High School graduation, Cole Midkiff Co-Founder of Quiktract and I reconnected over our favorite pastime, Hookah. Cole spilled what he had been working on, and I was immediately drawn towards it! The rest is history! Quiktract has quickly become my passion project, I am confident in the app we have built and am excited to continue to watch it take over the world of agreements.

Has it been a smooth road?
“If it was easy everyone would be doing it”, has recently become one of my favorite sayings. Nothing worth chasing is going to come easy, however, the chase is what makes it fun and what makes it worth it. Being an athlete, I was constantly “chasing” whether it be an actual human or my goals. I have always been a go-getter! When the time came to hang-up my cleats and move on from sports to the “working” world, it was a bit of a culture shock, and while I enjoyed the transition it wasn’t always easy. Luckily, I found a career that would still keep me around other athletes, though, in a different way, it did still feel like “home”.

Once Quiktract came to fruition the thought of going from a “Sports guy” to a “Tech guy” sounded daunting, but I was willing to take on the risk. Have you heard the saying: “Rome wasn’t built overnight?”, the past year, I have reminded myself of this daily! I quickly got wrapped up in the instant success bug, it took time to really understand that nothing worth having comes easy. Instant success isn’t sustainable and that’s what I remind myself of every day. I brace the grind and really live by the good words from the great Nipsey Hussle- “It’s a marathon” as long as we’re moving at a steady pace in the right direction everything else will fall into place. The sprint model you get burnt out too quick without enjoying the journey.

Though challenges come and having to face them head-on isn’t easy, I have genuinely enjoyed facing each challenge and have learned so much from each one that I have faced. It also helps that I truly believe in the Quiktract product, which makes every challenge or obstacle faced, worth it!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Quiktract App story. Tell us more about the business.
Where do I even begin with Quiktract, it was a dream, that has now flourished into a dream come true! We are nowhere near the full dream, but we are making strides every day! Quiktract was created to revolutionize the world of drafting and maintaining agreements, by providing the exploding freelance community with the necessary tools to not only succeed but protect themselves, and we are doing just that. Launching around four months ago, we have seen the need for this platform more than ever before, and while we knew the demand was high, hence, why the app was created, we never truly knew the value of Quiktract.

We have all been in situations where we agreed upon something (verbally) and after the fact, things have changed within the “agreement”. Quiktract gives those a peace of mind, as well as a written agreement without the hassle, time, expense, and most importantly fear that comes with traditional long-form contracts. We have made it our mission to continuously innovate as well as help cultivate a community of increased legal literacy. With Quiktract’s “Live Agreement” feature, we will be the industry innovators in agreement creation, management, and payment; making it all capable from a single app.

We want to be the tool that protects everyone. An app that adds value to people’s lives while giving them the ability to be their own boss. In today’s world we see a lot of companies (wags, task rabbit, airbnb, etc.) that provide the platform but at a cost or percentage of the individuals earnings. We want all our users to be able to earn everything they are so diligently working for. We want them to be official and really see the benefits of being a freelancer, solopreneurs, creatives. Basically putting FREE back into the freelance community. Not only can you provide the contract through the app, you can also provide payment & collect payment through the app, without taking a % of the transaction! We really want to make the process as seamless and simple as possible.

Being on our phones 24/7 (I know I’m guilty of it) it makes things so much easier. We are striving to change the stigma that a contract is supposed to be 30 pages and was drawn up by a lawyer in an oversize suit. In reality a contract is supposed to outline a few things: details-scope of work, deadlines, payments, restrictions, signature – simple, easy & straight to the point.

We at Quiktract are not only a “tech” company, we are also looking to be a voice in the community for those looking to better themselves and their families. We want to support those following their dreams to be business owners, freelancers, and everything in between. We firmly believe in following one’s dreams! Matter of fact, that’s what we did here, we are living towards the dream every day.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I think the legal industry will have no choice but to simplify the the contract process. Luckily, we’ve found our niche and got out in front of the problem early by removing the stigma behind contracts.

Making sure you’re protected should never be an intimidating process.
