Meet Black Haus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Black Haus.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The four of us met while going to UNCG. We starting practicing at Siids house which was a house venue. Then we started throwing house shows for two years around NC until we applied for Afropunk Battle of the Bands. We won the battle of the bands and then played Afropunk Brooklyn ’19. During quarantine, we played virtual shows for 300 entertainment and Afropunk.

We were also sent new guitars from Moya at Fender. Essence & Lyrical Lemonade have also featured us.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Hell naw.

Is the road easy for any black man in America?

We broke. We live in the middle of nowhere in the South. A music desert. Did we mention we’re broke? Even recently, We just lost our studio too. Even getting to Afropunk was an impossible feat. But in spite of it all we still pour our hearts into our music.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We’re musical artists that make whatever feels good in the moment. We’re known for being a black powerhouse that can tap into any genre. We’re most proud of our blackness and willingness to push boundaries. We’re grateful of where we’re at versus where we’ve been.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
To trust yourself. To not give up and stick to the process. Don’t sweat the small stuff.
