Today we’d like to introduce you to BINX.
Thanks for sharing your story with us BINX. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
I was born in South Africa and I was contacted by music producers from Los Angeles when I was still in high school but soon after I signed with a big modeling agency in Cape Town, so I modeled there for a year. I then made my way to New York in 2012.
I lived in Manhattan for a few years and performed at places like the US Open and the New York Marathon three years in a row before making the big move to Los Angeles in January 2018.
I have had a No.1 hit song in South Africa, and I am now currently helping to save the bees with my music and merchandise. I am also working as an influencer on Instagram while residing in Beverly Hills.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has never been, and I never expect it to ever be a smooth road. I chose the path of a musician, the path of unpredictability and it comes with a ton of rejection and a ton of hard work and waiting…
I also lost one of the most important people in my life a few years ago which set me back quite a bit. I almost gave up pursuing music because of it. I was lucky enough to have people around me who pushed me back into the thing I loved most.
One friend even bought me a cordless microphone, one I always wanted and told me I had no choice but to sing. Remember, your journey will mean nothing if you aren’t tending to your relationships along the way too.
We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I am an Avant-Garde pop musician. I play guitar, piano and the African drum the djembe. I am a singer and dancer as well. I am also known as being a social media influencer and work with hundreds of music, beauty and fashion brands each year. I sing in three different languages, English, Afrikaans, and Xhosa and I am known as “The African Bee” because it is my alter ego and I am helping to save the bees.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is the land of milk and honey. Anyone in the entertainment industry should be here. There is a ton of opportunity and so many people to network with, and the weather definitely has a factor of keeping you motivated and in a constant great mood. As a pop musician who loves beauty and fashion, LA is better suited for me than New York City.
