Meet Bill Johnson of Alltech Alarm in Burbank

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bill Johnson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Bill. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I picked up the basics in the Marines where I finished my 4-year term as an instructor at the wire communications school at Camp Pendleton. Once out of the service I worked through the ranks of the security industry from technician to sales and finally management. I’d say the corporate world had more influence on my starting Alltech than anything else because the mergers etc. were a distraction from the long term goal of building loyal crews and happy well served customers. Now at Alltech we are able to stay on point, providing security services that don’t come with unwelcome surprises to our customers.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest struggle in the security industry is remembering that the hard ways are the best ways. What I mean by that is that the best way to sell is still face to face us in the community where people are experiencing security problems and need a solution that fits their family “not a one size fits all” online bargain. The same goes for installation, we crawl under the house, squirm through the attic, fish wires in the walls and take the time to teach folks proper system operation. In the end the reward is twice the number referrals that I ever saw working for the corporate giants.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Alltech Alarm story. Tell us more about the business.
Alltech only does three things that are different and that makes all the difference. First, we know that being wiring experts is the real value in a security company and wireless systems are a distant 2nd best. Second, no multi-year contracts, every Alltech customer owns their equipment and is able to cancel monitoring services with 30 days’ notice. Third, people like that once they meet us, they are dealing with people they know, not a stranger every time they call.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
You can’t be in the right place at the right time or meet the right people if you’re not out there. How it goes “The harder I work, the luckier I get”?
