Today we’d like to introduce you to Bianca Richardson.
Bianca, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started playing in junior high when I joined the marching band. I always wanted to play drums as a kid because I really admired the movie Drumline. I was about eleven when the movie came out and it really inspired me to try out for the marching band. When I joined, I remember it was actually really difficult for me and my friend, Juan, because we weren’t as versatile with every type of drum. He was on 3rd bass and I was on 4th bass. We weren’t too excited about that; however, we decided to do it with no complaints because all we wanted to do was play the drums. I didn’t start playing on a real drum set until later on in my high school years. After graduating high school, I felt that this was the path I wanted to take in life. At the age of 26, drumming has taken me to many places around the world! I’m so grateful for every moment that God has given me and can’t wait to see where my passion takes me next.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I first started out, some people told me that it wasn’t an ideal instrument for a female. Because of this, I was a little discouraged to play. The drumming industry was and is a very male dominated industry and it is very rare that you will see a very successful female drummer. I knew then and now that there are many out there and that I wanted to be one of them.
Please tell us about B.richdrumz.
I love to showcase who I am and what I do on my social media. I specialize in making my drum video clips while hoping that the video I make will inspire someone to pursue the career that they want to do.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
HA!!! Actually just the simple things!! Whether it was playing outside, messing with my sister, Samantha, or anything else, I just enjoyed having fun. I loved spending time with my Auntie Becky and all of my family and friends. Those memories are the ones that I cherish.
