Meet Bez Ambar of Downtown Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bez Ambar.

Trained as a sculptor and painter; he has devoted his extraordinary talents in developing new concepts for the Jewellery and diamond industries. Bez invented the Princess cut diamond, widely viewed as a revolutionary change from previous diamond shapes. Utilizing laser technology, he developed the method for invisibly setting diamonds, creating sleek, continuous lines of brilliant white light. Most recently, Bez invented the Blaze diamond. With its powerful bursts of spectral colors, Bez has changed the basic thinking of diamond industry. “Why do we only cut diamonds to maximize the white light (brilliance) of a diamond? Look how much more powerful it is to highlight the spectral colours produced by a diamond!”

In addition to the Princess cut, Qudrillion and the patented Divine and Blaze Cut Diamond collection, the Pave and the black and white collection, Bez creates exclusive and custom designs for each specific stone according to the features, character and the desires of the gem and its distinguished proprietor. With clean, artistic and flowing lines he creates hand drawings that bring to life the essence and the spirit of the creation. The drawings which are incredibly beautiful in their own right have captured the attention of many celebrated clients around the world. Many of whom have asked to include the drawings with their purchase as it was a vital part of their experience in acquiring the ring of their dreams.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It is never a smooth ride when one introduces a new concept. The diamond industry in 1980 was a very traditional and structured trade. It took more than five years to bring the new concept of square diamonds with a brilliance of a round to popularity. At first, few progressive jewellery designers got involved with the new cut but they didn’t take advantage of the stone’s special properties. I was heavily invested in the product however sales declined and the bills came due. My confidence was deeply shaken and I was ready to surrender and abandon the entire idea.

But, each time that I looked with a magnifying glass at the diamond I was struck by its beauty, my faith was restored and my spirit was elevated. The industry giants are wrong this new diamond cut has merit and I was determined to prove it. Years later, after creating the right styles that captured the cut virtues it became the second most popular stone worldwide.

Please tell us about Bez Ambar Inc.
Bez Ambar brings an artist vision to one of the most important pieces of jewellery you will ever give or receive. He sees, as only an artist can, the divine play of light within the boundaries of a gem, and understand the optics and the potential of the inner character of the materials in his hands. This fired his personal quest to create a unique cut of diamond that would, literally, outshine the rest.

Using physical innovations to achieve aesthetic ends, Bez Ambar has sculpted the highest refractory brilliance of other cut diamond in the world. With master cutters, he made artistic modifications to the traditional cut and attained a breakthrough, discovering a new way to maximise the amount of light passing through his diamond cuts, returning an extraordinary refractory light.

The result, a diamond that has 10 times bigger fire than any other cut. The perfect symbol of a relationship filled with a divine light.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would probably solidify worldwide patents and go after any company that attempted to copy my intellectual properties.
