Meet Beverly Hills Beauty Entrepreneur: Beri Halouska

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beri Halouska.

Beri, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my career at Vidal Sassoon Academy in 2003. Once I graduated I started assisting Steam Salon, and that is where I met a fellow stylist who suggested that I get trained in hair extensions. I started assisting in one of the first hair extension salons in 2005. Hair extensions were all the rage at the time and just hitting the main street market. I worked there for a year and then I took a few clients under my wing and started my business from my apartment in West Hollywood. I had women coming to my kitchen to do their hair extensions. Clients even flew in from various places in the US to get extensions in my apartment! I hustled that way for a few years until I had enough clients and then I started working in other salons throughout the city. I had always wanted to have my own business, so in 2008 I opened a private studio in Beverly Hills. During that time I noticed that there was a missing link with hair extension products and decided that I was going to go to Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising to learn to develop and market hair extension products. I launched my own line of hair extensions products in 2013. What is special about my line is that it is sulfate free and made for hair extensions. There are very few products on the market today that are made just for hair extensions. In 2014, I opened a new studio in Beverly Hills off of Wilshire Blvd. Over the past decade I have done hair extensions for LA Fashion week, American Horror Story Freak Show, Hemlock Grove, Teen Wolf, Sharknado, King of Queens, Knock Knock 2, Eterna, and Revenge. My clients have included Morgan Fairchild, Arden Cho, Leah Remini, Camilla Bell, Kristin Chenoweth, Amazon Eve, and Kari Wuhrer.

Has it been a smooth road?
No it has not always been a smooth road. When I started my business from my kitchen I was very scared of making ends meet and I was only 22. There had also been clients in the past that were not easy to work with so learning how to manage people has been a lesson learned. Also, when I started FIDM full time for 3 years I had to juggle a full time clientele, manage my finances so that I could launch my product line and cover bills at home and have enough time to be newlyweds with my husband. I would work a couple hours before school on clients, drive to FIDM and have classes till 5pm, drive back to work on more clients till 9pm and then come home and do class projects. Did I mention that also during that time I was an intern for Royal Apothic! That whole experience almost broke me. But I made it, and I am so grateful for the struggles that have leaded me to where I am today!

What is the most difficult part of what you do?
Keeping my stamina up throughout the day as there is a lot of labor involved such as standing and over using my hands

What are you striving for, what criteria or markers have you set as indicators of success?
I personally define success as doing something you love while earning a living at it. When I leave my house to drive to my studio I am actually excited to see my clients and to make their dream hair come true. I don’t dread going to work and my clients are my dear friends. My success with my career has given me the means to travel the world with my husband and learn about new cultures. For me that is what life is about. I also define success in how you treat people. Always be humble and kind!

What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future are to expand my business into the Denver market as hair extensions are becoming more popular there. I am traveling to Spain and France with my husband in September and I am looking forward to seeing all the amazing chateaus! I am looking forward to adding another hair extension system which is called Micro Point Solutions. Micro Point Link is four Cyberhairs linked to one single stand of your own hair. With Micro Point Link you can receive up to 672 hairs in the crown or top of your head in one hour. The Micro Point Link knot is so micro-tiny, your new hair looks and feels like your own growing hair. This is the solution we have been looking for, for clients who are experiencing hair loss in the crown area.
